My school here in "insert european country here" had an exchange program with a japanese school where you could spend a year studying in japan, i went through that program and made some friends and established contacts with some japanese teachers and deans, after i went home and completed my studies i applied for a student visa and had to take the entrance exams to the university itself. You can't apply on your previous grades since the japanese school system don't acknowledge other grading scales as legitimate in japan. The entrance exams were really hard but they are at least possible to take in english. Its really hard to get a spot if you havent already established a contact grid there though.

If you dont have any contact with a japanese school institution i'd recommend you to see if you can find a japanese cultural exchange organization close to you, they are usually more than willing to help you out if you are serious about studying in japan. Be aware though that the acceptance scores are really high, they want exchange students to come to japan but they want them to be serious about studying too. In other words they don't want any weebs who thinks it would be cool to go to the birthplace of naruto and loli, they already have enough of that shit over there so they want normal western people, like us on Yea Forums. If you really want to give it a shot ill wish you the best of luck. For me it was a wonderful experience and I'll gladly go back there in the future.
