This was my setup for a screen canopy. I got better results from this method, but that’s only because of my lighting. I used 8 cfl’s! Lol. Still pretty good for cfl’s though.

I haven’t grown in a year or so. I wouldn’t do it again without led, but I did good for what I had. These were aurora indica from nirvana seeds. Can’t beat nirvana!

I do DTW hydro in coco/pearlite. I find it's easier for me than a reservoir based hydro setup.

If you are growing photoperiod cannabis plants then you will need to reduce light to 12 hours or less to induce flowering. However, autoflowering strains will flower under any light schedule.

I’m sure it is. I’ve never grown anyway other than dwc. A few mistakes early on, but I learn fast.

sup guys i'm new to growing weed i was wondering how can i tell if the ph in my water is just right? i've been told that it needs to be just right between 5.5 6.5 i know how to lower the ph but how can i tell without having to buy a special device?

That said, some photoperiod plants will show pre-flowers once they've reached maturity. These will be small and hard to spot for an inexperienced grower though. Pre flower sexing is an advanced technique.

To check pH you will need a measuring method of some type. You can get cheap liquid or paper based chemechal tests. They change color based on the pH. Easiest place to find these are in pet stores in the aquarium section. Or you can buy a digital pH meter from your local hydro store or online.

It depends on whether you’re growing in hydro or soil. Whether your in veg or flower.

Hydro is my specialty. In veg you want about 6.2, flower 5.9.

This. Some strains like the 5.8 some 6.2 seem the sweet spot. Depends on the strain and the nute content. Pay attention to your plants and they will tell you what they need.

Thanks. Yes, it's photoperiod and I grown before but I switched over to 12/12 early so I never gave it any thought. I'm just confused by the information on some of these sites because few people will switch over to 12/12 just at the two or three week mark so stating 3-6 weeks before seeing them doesn't make any sense at all, especially since it seems to take about a week for plants to produce preflowers after switching over so I don't think that's what they meant.

Agreed, I don't like soil much. To easy to sway the ph, have to flush more and make sure you get all the nutes out for a sweet smoke but, most don't because that takes effort and time. Hydro is the way to go. You can control their environment easier.

In hydro, the first 4 weeks are really just ph proper water. Now you can slowly start to add nutes. Depends on the strain and that plant. Usually by week 5 you can tell the sex of a plant. But, if you're smart you just have female seeds and make a momma plant and use her. Takes harvest time down by weeks.

Can you spot the pre-flowers in this picture? They're tiny and they'll all but disapear in a week. Like I said, you have to know what to look for and really be looking for it to sex plants in veg. And again, not all plants will show before flipping to 12/12.

I have a few two month old plants grown in soil. Still no signs of any preflowers. I'm not missing them either, I've worked with them before. There's nothing there at all.

I guess you're right and my genetics do not allow it to have preflowers in veg after all. I didn't know that was a possibility.

You should clone your plants and flower some clones to sex them.

No, the early pre-flowers will show up anywhere between 3-6 weeks and then wither and die within a week. If you miss it you won't see them again untill you flip.

This is what I do. Well....sort of. I take a few cuttings from the inside of the plant where it gets congested. I put those cuttings in a cup of water and put them under 12/12. Once they show sex I toss them. Usually takes less than a week.

I would but I can only legally grow four plants at a time, including clones. I have to figure something out because this is a waste of resources and I never should have gotten to the two month stage without sexing them. I'll maybe switch to keeping a mother plant or monster cropping after this grow.

I also have a problem where FIMing doesn't do anything. It doesn't put energy into offshoots, it just stalls for a week while it recovers and it keeps growing normally. I'm assuming that is also genetic.

FIMing isn't meant to speed secondary growth, it slows the top growth, slightly, and breaks the apical dominance from the top node to the top t nodes.

If you want to encourage secondary branch growth you need to top.

The major cost of growing is up front. If you're growing indoors, you need lights, fans, filters, pots nutrients and grow medium. If you grow outdoors you can pass on half of that. If you have a good setup and have spent the time researching growing is pretty easy. But if you go in unprepared and with the cheapest setup you can find.....well...it'll grow, it is a weed after all, but you're not going to get much out of it.

Yes, it was an autoflower. She was under 24hr light from the day she popped to the day she got chopped.

I buy seeds from nirvana seeds. The give a good description of how the plant will grow, strength, and have a very reasonable price. I grow several strains.
