Yea, I liked the astonishing better tbh, at least it was original.

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 159K)

Shit man, I haven't listened to this in forever.
Thanks.

Yessss

Are you making fun of me? People don't just go around liking Daniel Johnston. What game are you playing at??

I'm torn, some tracks on DoT are great- personally At Wit's End is better than anything on Astonishing but generally Astonishing is a better album to listen to

I fucking love Danny.
I was just rocking Hi How Are You? at work the other night. Yip Jump as well.

Gay tier

I'm super sad that I never got to see him live.
That guy is something else, man. I got into him during a strange part of my life. He is super interesting and so much of his material is just heartbreaking. Marvelous.

Yeah, in Distance each song seems to kind of harken back to a different era or sound Dream Theater has tried before. I think Barstool Warror or Room 137 are my favorites. Astonishing was good, fucking James LaBrie and his villain voice inflection gets me to laugh every time though. A new Beginning on Astonishing is definitely my favorite, that funky bass and drum breakdown at the end with the guitar solo is fucking tight.
Gunna drop my all time favorite album here with this post. Listened to this as baked as a homeless in a crack house the day it came out when I was still in high school.

No, you.

Except s/t is better.

It feels like DoT was an album that they needed to do to get back to what they loved doing in the 2000s- sure it's nothing new, but it'll keep anyone who likes their back catalogue happy and it was probably a lot of fun for them as well. So maybe the next album will be something special, idk

That's awesome. Do you like any covers of his music? I'm always on the lookout for more. I would say that there is likely non that you know that i haven't heard, but i just recently discovered one by the dude from the Butthole Surfers, and fucking Johnny Depp plays bass

In light of recent events

Attached: Screenshot_20190305-172550.jpg (1055x852, 473K)

Hey! You too! Do you know any good covers of his songs?

When it comes to certain artists, I'm really picky when it comes to covers, but in a way, it's really interesting to hear what more "musician" types will do with music that was made by artists that are less-inclined in certain aspects of the creation of music. The Residents, for example.
Also, I love The Butthole Surfers.
I love the story about them giving Daniel Johnston acid.

I can agree with that, I feel like after the Astonishing they needed something more on the "relaxed" side for them. The Astonishing ended up being so much more than album, I can only imagine all the work which went into building their world, on top of recording an album as intricate and long as it ended up being.

Is "s/t" Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence? If not I'm a faggot and have no idea what you're referring to.

self-titled, bruh

I get confused by reviews comparing DoT to their older stuff, it sounds just like ADToE and DT. Do msics reviewers get paid for good reviews or are they just pussies?
Also this is their second best album, and what the astonishing should have sounded like

Attached: sfam.jpg (316x315, 19K)

Not only am I a faggot, I'm retarded. I didn't really care much for the self titled Dream Theater album, and the self titled Gorillaz is pretty damn iconic, but for some reason Plastic Beach resonates more with me. Maybe it's the theme, but I also think Albarn grew so much as a musician between s/t and Plastic Beach, I personally think it really shows.

lol that was pretty great. Fucking love that movie. That's how i learned about Daniel Johnston.

If it helped I had no idea what s/t meant either. But then I don't lurk in Yea Forums much
Yeah, 'Dream Theater' is a okay album. I mostly just enjoy the 20min last song on its own but it's still fun to listen to as a whole.
Drumming aside (Mangina is fine, whatever) DT has suffered because of not having Portnoy around during the writing stage. SFAM is glorious because it was such a joint effort. Not sure they'll ever get that back

this is pretty good, here's a yt playlist of it:

Just imagine watching that go down and being responsible. Like, alright, I don't know how bad I should feel, but this is awful.
If you've ever witnessed someone having a bad time on acid, just imagine DJ.. man..
I too, love that movie . It really helped me get into him. I think because it enables you to be more personal with him. It's amazing and tragic and wonderful

wtf are all these albums?

My nigga

It's what you listen to when you have taste

'77 is overplayed and overhyped

Yeah. That scene where his father was describing the plane crash, so fucking sad.

I have a signed Jeremiah. I also got his art book and framed some of the pages, And a fucking Jeremiah tat. I have mental health issues. his music is cathartic.

I think it's just little cues and nuances in the songs. To me, Untethered has a Train of Thought vibe, Paralzyed has the piano cues of Octavarium, Fall into the Light takes me to ADToE, Barstool Warrior takes me back to Awake, Room 137 is heavy and somber kind of like Black Clouds and Silver Linings, S2N has the sound of the self titled, At Wits End reminds me of Systematic Chaos with the fast and light guitar rhythms, and haunting piano/bass. Out of Reach goes back to Metropolis 2 or Images and Words. Pale Blue Dot sounds like Octavarium and Six Degrees for me.
That all being said, I think it's a good thing, I really enjoyed DoT, and it's definitely not the first or last time we'll see them take from the older tunes. Keep in mind as well, the human brain will eventually find connections and patterns between one thing and another if you give it enough time.
And honestly, I think the music reviewers are similar to those in the video game review industry. Give everything a good review to keep the masses of fan boys/girls from revolting against your stupid platform, and remain in good graces with the artist. You're also taking a lottery ticket when you read a review online, you usually have no context to the reviewers tastes, nuances, etc. I don't follow "mainstream" reviewers because they're tasked with reviewing an album in a few days and you just can't throughoughly do it in that time line, in my opinion. To me, they give first impressions, not full reviews.

I do too. It really gets personal when I can relate to the SOUND.. Like..some of it just hits so hard. You can hear the struggle in his voice. Conviction and denial at the same time.
It is something of its own.

Literally every Crim album up to Discipline

not a popular one but if you take the time to listen to it all it is a masterpiece

RS are hacks. Doing a concept album in the late 60s? Wonder where they got that idea

every idea everyone ever had was inspired by someone elses idea or an already existing concept (like you cant imagine a color that doesnt exist or if you try to imagine a new face the face youll picture in your head will be constructed of already existing faces you encountered)
this being said stones are a hack because who they are
but they certainly created the music on the album yeah the concept album wasnt new but the idea isnt exclusive to the first person to ever made a concept album
vivaldi did a concept album and he was probably not the first one
all that aside the music on the album is fucking rad

This is great
