I dropped my laptop on the floor right where the cooling fan is located. Now it randomly turns off.

I had to open the laptop up, and remove some of the broken hinge just to get the frame to close back up. It works now but the cooling fan seems a lot quieter. Now the computer will randomly turn off right when I make the CPU do something strenuous, like run a Youtube video. Could the fan be malfunctioning? Here's what Speedfan displays when I plug the laptop in and do simply NOTHING

Or maybe the C drive could be fucked up? Because I heard dropping the laptop damages C drives too

What could be causing my laptop to turn off randomly?

Does it have an SD card slot?

cpu is kill

Overheating my guy. That fan is not working as it should

Those temps look fine. Probably your HDD that got fucked. Is it a mechanical one?

Yes it does

Yeah I figured as much. Is it easy repair?

Yes it's an oldschool HDD. The laptop is from 2013 before all the SSD came to market

Ah sorry missed the part about those temps being in idle. Yeah, it's the fan in that case.

You are overheating the CPU

Here's another screenshot, 8 minutes later. Keeping in mind it's not even plugged in at the moment, battery at 78% currently. Not AC plugged in

>Is it easy repair?
Super easy, and when you are done, you will even have extra parts.

Thanks I'll give it a shot

>strenuous
>youtube video

What model laptop is it? HDDs and memory is always easy to change, but other parts in some laptops can be a bitch.

2013 HP Envy Dv7
Windows 8.1
8GB ram
AMD graphics card

Does the laptop restart and go through a normal boot?

Is it possible that the display is losing power? Slap the back of the display a few timesto see if you can recreate the fault

It's fucked alright

poor specs

Looks similar to my Asus laptop mobo. Yeah, should be an easy fix as long as you find cheap replacement. GL bro

Yeah it's been on for about 25 minutes now, it boots up fast actually. No problems opening start menu, scrolling through pages. I had to run a Malwarebytes scan in Safe Mode and when I did, it removed 851 pieces of Malware :O It's my bro's computer and he's rough on his shit. It seems free of malware now, and definitely a lot faster since I ran the scan.... except for the fact that it'll turn off randomly

30 minutes now. Unplugged. It still hot

Attached: 30minutesUnplugged.jpg (421x487, 50K)

that's really not that hot. CPUs can easily go above 100 degrees before shutting off. you probably fucked up the CPU itself.

What about the display?

It's possible there is damage to the display rather than the pc itself.

Other things to try (may have been mentioned already tldr)

-Reinsert ram stick(s)

- Run bios and leave for a while and see if it restarts

-check power connectors going to the motherboard, wiggle/Reinsert

-anything around the battery and charger connection. Could be a cracked solder joint

stress it. boot up a game and check temp

Not hot. Ignore the flame symbols

CPU will run fine up to around 90c

You have a lose wire on the reset or on off switch.

Would need to short to cause a restart.

There may be exceptions but I think I have only encountered push to make switches.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. To be continued- I'm going to run a game and I will let you know if it turns off or not. I will be back on later

What happens when it turns off? Does it stay off or does it restart?

?
It's true. Laptops in general are made to withstand higher temps. I have over 200hrs Witcher 3 on mine, running 80-90c constant. Still runs fine 2 years later.

stays off

yeah definitely your CPU then. i looked up your CPU model and it should cut off at 105 degrees, so if it's cutting off before that then it's fucked
