What do you think about cold-weather warfare?
What do you think about cold-weather warfare?
Comfy
Best camo. Period.
The best kind of warfare visually imo. To be apart of? The worst kind probably.
its cold
Sucks to be digging a humvee out of snow
Much better than steaming jungle warfare.
Also, shit world guerilla tactics won't work against a first world military. Thermal camera can easily pick out anyone hiding.
Hard to move around in the snow .
Path visible to enemy (harder to flee an ambush).
Hard to keep morale up.
-20 Celsius --- People get cold and extremely unwilling to be outdoors .
-40 Celsius --- Russians and Finns get cold and no one wants to fight .
-50 Celsius --- Penguins get cold
Advantage home team
It fucking sucks and I hate even training for it. Being infantry in the winter is horrendous. Everything is harder because you have to manage clothing and hydration way more, and you don’t know what it means to be cold until you’ve had to live in it. When you have to remain in one spot overnight just watching the ground in front of you, you feel like an old man when it’s time to move
its colder than regular warfare
Is it better than jungle?
You can’t really have a huge conventional war in a jungle. They’re both shitty beyond belief though
It's cold.
Maybe you can't but their hasn't been any real reason to try to have a large scale war in the tropics the regions being so historically backwards.
comfy
Not as comfy as warm-weather warfare.
have you ever tried to take a piss or shit outside in -20 Celsius ?
Well I’m Canadian so I think it’s great.. Seems like an inch or two of snow and a little bit cold temperatures in America and 70% of population forgets how to drive. Hopefully nobody in the military is in that 70%
yes, many times. It isn't that bad
You ever seen what happens in Arizona Texas or Florida when it snows. Absolute pandemonium
i think its retarded, why don't they just go somewhere nice to fight?
wut's the coldest it gets where you are ?
I am from Latvia an we had a week with -40 Celsius ~ 6 years back ... It was amazing and awful at the same time ...~50 people died (homeless and passed out drunks )
Bout minus 30-35 is the coldest I’ve seen this winter...
Wasn’t the Vietnam war in a jungle and the tail end of WWII
I think it sucks major ass.
>Being nearly frost bitten everyday
>Sweating while wearing all those bulky clothes feels uncomfortable as hell
>Being injured while hardly being able to move in the dense snow
Nope.
Shut the fuck up.
HA . We had -20... tops ...and it's +2 now
Highly unusual .
Guess on average we have similar winters .
Some real anger issue here..
Gonna average like roughly -12 to -18 here this week.. at least that’s the prediction.
I think it's one more reason that millenials will never fight in an actual civil war.
It sucks. It's hard on gear, it's hard on vehicles, it's miserable just to be in, you're already wearing a ton and a half in just the armor and then you're adding another ten pounds of cold weather clothing, I'd sooner be naked fighting in the desert than fully kitted in the cold.
WTF are you talking about? We have millenials fighting wars right now. Most of OIF/OEF/OND/OIR have been fought by millennials.
I, for one, fucking hate being cold. I've read more books on WWII than I can even recall. I've heard all about the horrors of fighting in the South Pacific- malaria and yellow fever, sweltering heat, 100% humidity whenever it's not pouring rain, nothing to eat but spam and moldy rice captured from the enemy, swarms of mosquitoes that never let up, and so on and so on, but I'd still take that over being in the Argonne in the dead of winter.
Not OP
Sad that the good millenials will die fighting for the rights of SJW/BLM millennials
this was from aurora?
Swedish-Finnish here. Granddad fought in continuation war in Finland. Cold realy helped them because russian soldiers couldn't deal with the cold woods.
>Argonne
Northern France is baby shit compared to fucking STALINGRAD in the coldest winter recorded for decades .
Otherwise you make good points
+ they don't amputate your limbs because they were in the sun too long .....but they do with frostbite
Yes but they weren't 'large scale' like the Western Front ever was. Maybe because they were in a jungle or maybe because the region was a peripheral backwater. I just wonder if their will be large scale Stalingrad like battles conducted in jungles in the future as these regions develop. It could be that large scale jungle warfare just lacks a motive and while forbidding could be overcome with necessary innovation if local conflicts escalate.
>russian soldiers couldn't deal with the cold woods
Odd ... sounds wrong .
>Swedish-Finnish
So you are a drunk muslim ?
neet
as a finn i can confirm that russians can't deal with the cold
Die in a blizzard.
Russians are from the fields, not the woods. Also, after Stalin's purges, the Soviet union had shitty officers. They set up camp in the woods but didn't know how to organize the work properly. One example is that foxholes and trenches weren't covered on top, so russians froze to death. Just google it and you will see. Also problems with logistics and maltreatment of russians soldiers were so bad that it killed them off aswell. Crackers and vodka aint the best to recieve during wolf winters.
Swedish-finns are their own people. They live mostly on the westcoast of Finland.
half-life 3
... now this makes a little more sense.
And how Germans coped with the winter ?
Swedish-finns ..like from Aland ?
How are you with all the liberal nonsense Sverige is pulling .
Everyone in Finland laugh about it. but now after having a shitty election and a goverment that has been really bad. FIrst one that is acctualy thourghly disliked, they want to make Finland more like Sweden!? For the people it is obvious what happens if you open the floodgates. Just hope we can stop it in time.
Åland yes, but also in Finland west coast. Vasa being the "capital" of Swedish-finns.
God bless you brother
What war did you fight in, boomer?
Shut it, dinonigger.
I'm just saying that I'm a millennial and fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. Where did you do your time? Or did you never serve and dont know shit?
Call of Duty 2 Negga !!!
I serviced ur mum
No wonder she seemed so depressed lately.
I should get back to her at some point.
easier to see the blood of your enemies
No Sir, I don't like it
My great grandfather died while protecting some dumb communications tower . R.I.P
Perfected it.
NSWC Kodiak
Come get some rooskies!
shit’s cold, you should wait for it to warm up or fight somewhere down south.
I find it to be Aesthetic.
And also horrifying.
You should use tauntauns.
I prefer it over hot-weather warfare. 68 degree warfare is best warfare desu
user let me tell you about the MWTC at Bridgeport during my time in the US Marines
Imagine carrying a 70lb pack through up to 8 feet of snow where every calculated step burns your already limited supply of daily calories. You burn so fucking many it doesn't matter how much you eat because you'll still be losing weight. Not only that but you're also rotating between 3 other guys a 50lb sled strapped to one guy's hips as well as his pack with another guy pushing the sled behind with his ski poles to help out. Lose a guy? Congrats you have only 3 guys to rotate between and probably more shit to carry per person.
When it's cold and you live in that shit you have to fight for every movement and only the strong don't become straight up internal. It isn't uncommon to hear about guys dipping their hands in kerosene then in snow to purposefully get frostbite to get out of it. winter warfare is the absolute worst and I'd take any other environment any day for twice the length of time easily. You don't know hell user until you have to take a shit in a wag bag in the middle of a snowstorm. Fuck winter warfare. Really cool camo though
Macarthur's New Guinea campaign, Philippines campaigns, Guadalcanal. . . .
better than the desert.
Desert
>Sand gets in your shoes
>Hot as balls, sweating all over, can't take off extra layers since you're pretty down there already
>water is a serious and hard to come by resource
Winter
>Keeping snow out of your under layers, EZ
>Only sweating if you're over exerting(Probably are because war) at that point you can take off extra layers.
>Water is all around you waiting to be melted
And lets not forget the blood of your enemies staining the snow is a clear sign that you dominated that area.
Snow battle best battle.
Michigan fag here.
A month ago we had a -40 degree windchill. It was awful. I had a headache after bekng outside for 2 minutes. A migraine fucking headache. Fuck it.
Is there any articles on that it sounds real interesting
