5.56/.223Rem to the leg and if you hit the femoral artery they die in 7-8 minutes, tops unless they immediately get medical attention. You hit them in their pelvic iliac arteries (also not covered by armor) and they are dead even with a doctor present and trauma team ready to go.

If you're close enough to shoot a soldier with a .223/5.56 with the accuracy to hit an artery, you're going to die too.

The more important point is this:

Running 5.56 restricts you to the AR-15 platform, which isn't as reliable or easy to maintain as some of its counter parts. If you seriously intend to go against the military scenario in some fanboy delusion, you're likely not going to have access to all the necessary items to properly maintain your weapon.

An AK platform 7.62 is going to be more reliable and consistent, and you still won't have any problems looting ammo for it off the Americans you kill in your delusions.

Or, you can go with a more proprietary solution based on 5.56(better ballistics than 7.62), such as HK's civilian 416 platform. It uses a similar platform to the AR-15, but with a better designed gas system.

Though, non-AR15 5.56 platforms are typically more expensive. AR-15 fags can't afford them. That's why they buy AR-15s.

The 5.56 is not optimal for targets larger than human-size. It is tailor made for killing PEOPLE en masse. It's the right tool for the job.

Izhmash, Molot, Ruger, Keltec, Polish Beryl, etc. all make rifles chambered in 5.56.

I own both. Both are 100% reliable. The AR does take more maintenance. The AK will be more reliable if you don't maintain it. But with proper care both are 100% GTG. AK does have more power but against level III or level IV plates both are equally subpar with standard ammo. AK hits harder up close but lacks at distance and has more recoil so followup shots are slower and reloads are also slower. It boils down to personal preference.
