Would also like to add an old revolver of pretty much any sort (as long as it won't break from metal fatigue), a Garand, a good, basic shotgun for skeet, and a compact rifle (AR-platform would be easymode, but IDK). Thinking in other terms, that's easily 3-4 sets of top-spec tires, fluids, and entry fees for a few years of autox and track days.

True, but since a suppressor also adds length to a firearm, most people run them on short rifles. Putting a 5" suppressor on a 16" rifles now gives you a package that's longer than a 20" M-16 which is getting pretty unwieldy indoors.

Depending on the cartridge and the range of intended use an SBR can be extremely effective. Also fun.

The NFA classifies the differences between a rifle and a pistol. When you stay within the classification of rifle but reduce barrel size below 16" then it's a felony to own it without special paperwork.

The laws are arbitrary but carry extreme penalties when broken. Even if you go through the necessary process you have to pay for a tax stamp for the SBR.

The government is always trying to find ways to limit the 2nd amendment in order to condition people to eventually accept gun confiscation. It will happen over a longer period of time here compared to other countries due to our constitution, history and culture.

Because I found one on my property looking to cross the Mason Dixon line. Real fine negro looking firearm that was nearly starved to death with just one cartridge in the chamber and flash rust on the bolt. I was inclined to turn this particular fine specimen to the proper authorities and see if I could jew my way to some kind of reward. But seenin as it was getting dark on that faithful day, I decided to shelter and feed this firearm for the night and decide by the morning if I should turn it in. The poor thing didn't speak a lick of english, or anything in any language, between the welded pinned suppressor and what I assumed is abuse from the previous owner the firearm did nothing but sit quite and flinch every time I offered a hand. Once inside I got a better look, the harsh florescent lights highlighted the cracked buttstock and scuffed handgaurd, dirt was visible in nearly nook and cranny of the firearm. I spent that entire night undressing and cleaning the firearm up, I was able to find an extra butt stock lying around and I bought a whole case of 7.62x51 NATO to keep it fed. And ever since that night, that gen 1 Sig Sauer 716 patrol rifle has been grateful to me and has stuck around.

Great for shooting indoors or in your yard if it's legal. Keeps from bothering neighbors. Also great for hunting or pest removal

Suppressors, if they dont have wipes, actually do increase the bullet velocity. It is marginal, but measurable.

The sbr on the floor in my pic is actually chambered in a pistol caliber with a 7.5" barrel, so it's effectively a very compact, high capacity weapon that gains some performance from the a pistol cartridge by sending it down a longer barrel than it normally would be fired from. I have 3 handguns also chambered in the same caliber so I can use the same ammo between them.

Doesn't matter, the gasses pushing the bullet are going faster than the bullet itself. A wiper-less suppressor acts as longer barrel by containing the gasses and forcing it behind the bullet.

I don't know why. I just feel it could happen. I have a friend who is a son of a police chief. He's an avid gun owner and he wants told me a story how his wife and his wife's friend were outside of his front door and he could hear them, and he was waiting by the door ready to shoot them because he believed they were breaking in. He's not the only person you've told me a story like that. I know at my personal gun experience is very low, and I think that owning a gun something you almost have to be brought up around from an early age, or at least you have to become serious about the culture. I don't want to dedicate that much of myself to gun ownership and a gun culture, because if I were being honest I'd have to say the people who I do know own guns are too crazy about guns. It's a hobby for them but it's almost a lifestyle.

But it all stems from not being sure of oneself around guns. I'm sure it's something I could develop in time, but again I don't want to become a quote-unquote gun nut just to own a gun. No offense though.

I understand your point completely, and I often think about it in the same way you've described. But then I fall into thinking about what if scenarios... What if it's dark and I can't see what I'm shooting at? What if the lights are out and I shoot a family member?
These are very possible concerns, and anyone rational has had to have asked themselves the same questions making the decision to own a gun.
I wish I had been brought up around guns and had a strong foundation and a better understanding of what to do in those moments, but then I think about how I've lived this long without one and I wouldn't want to start trekking to gun shows every other month on the weekend to spend $400 or $500 on toys I may never use.

I really don't have anything against ownership, it's something I think about from time to time, but again, wish I had a higher natural comfort level with a gun. Were you brought up hunting? Or with guns? I'm sure you'd even agree it helped tremendously with a comfort level, if you had been brought up with guns.

I own a 12 gauge short barrel for home defense and a 30-06 for hunting. Anymore is absolutely pointless. Firearms are a tool that should be treated with respect.
