UBI puts half of the government bureaucracy out of work, and ends up cheaper than the current gatekeeper system. And since no one has to do shit jobs anymore, it finally makes sense to build the robots and automate them since you can't get some poor desperate schmuck to do them for poverty wages.

Smaller government, automation of menial labor tasks, there's really no practical arguments against UBI that haven't already been debunked.

That's the idea user. Replacing welfare programs makes the price much more reasonable. Considering most crimes are due to poverty, the immense amount we spend on prisons will drop as well. Inflation will happen, but it was gonna happen anyway and 1000 a month could be the difference between an out of work laborer sleeping in a tent or sleeping under a roof.

Automation is coming whether we do this or not which means millions of people being put out of work. We will become a third world country without this.

Also I thought of this years ago, but it wasn't this stupidly basic it had tiers to it all but the lowest one (which is about as good as living on foodstamps and low income housing) required you to do some sort of work or growing as a person. Art workshops, woodshop, business and finance workshops, community college courses, trade school, volunteering, community service, credits for cleaning up the neighborhood, clearing snow for the elderly, etc. Give people monetary incentive to still be productive or improving themselves in some way that could yield financial gain for them. It would help transition us to artistic and technological careers as well.

Initially people would have the option to replace their current welfare benefits with a UBI or keep them and opt out of the UBI. In the long run other programs would be wound down and replaced with UBI. I imagine that the ultimate goal would be to have Medicare for All, Social Security, and UBI, and that's it. This eliminates a lot of bureaucracy and overhead costs, but current welfare spending including overhead costs amounts to less than half of what the UBI would cost.

The difference in cost would be paid for by implementing a VAT, which is a kind of consumption tax. Personally, consumption taxes are my favorite kinds of taxes because they punish people for being consumerist whores and negate the false economy effect of buying disposable plastic garbage to some degree.

One other thing to consider, though, is that a sufficiently large UBI negates the need for tuition free college. Combined with a program that requires schools to keep their tuition in check in order to qualify for federal funding, people can simply go to school on their UBI. Unlike tuition free schools, this system would not disincentivise alternatives to college like apprenticeships.

The policy will actually get most people to spend more, since they will have more. This will help the economy exponentially. Yangs primary reason for doing this though is for the small majority of people that are struggling to adapt to automation (even though life itself is about adaptation and change). This will keep Anerica's Countrymen that are really struggling from going over the edge. I'd vote for him, but not 2020 (even though I'm a righty). Like my god, the demos should be scared shitless of how good a job Trump is doing.
