In my personal experience, the left hates the right faaaar more than the right hates the left. I have left wing friends who refuse to talk to right-wingers/broken off contact with people who lean right, etc. Even knew a girl who was super attracted to one of my friends until she found out he leaned right. Her attitude immediately changed and she despised him. I have not experienced anything like this coming from the other direction. Even my girlfriend's family, who are all SUPER conservative and know I'm a libtard, they all love me and treat me with respect. I cannot with confidence say the same would be true if I were a right winger and her family were all leftists. It's actually one of the reasons I'm finding myself being pushed further and further away from the Democratic Party

I'm a pretty rational person. I practiced law for three years until about a year ago. I did well because I'm a very logical person. I'm a human being and I care about other human beings. Emotions are part of being a human being. But I think i have a handle on considering facts in my analyses. In my experiences, I see hate coming from both sides against their opposite side. It's a little disconcerting when I see anti-right hate, but I understand it, and not just because I share their likes/preferences. Part of the rhetoric of the right is a message of intolerance, something the left justifiably is opposed to. The logic goes like this: if someone is intolerant of other people, the only way to effectively get them to understand how abhorrent their POV is to other people is to be intolerant of they and their ideas.

Put it another way: a fetish club I went to in a historically liberal city back in the day had a sign that said "intolerance is not tolerated." Took me about 20 seconds to get it, then I smiled. Couldn't have agreed more.

The right, OTOH, are more free and cavalier with their hatred of the left. Their worldview is basically one of extreme conformity to traditional mores (look at their responses in any cuck/swinger thread for a great example of this) and fealty to a fascist state. The way they see it, if you're not conservative, you're wrong, and since their POV has been the dominant theme throughout history, they see no reason not to be out & proud with their bigotry. The Charlottesville rally is a great example of that.

When I was in college, someone explained to me that the farther to the extreme in ideology "the group" subscribes to, the more it becomes indistinguishable from the extreme on the other side. As in, rather than being a straight line the two ends bend upward until they meet at the top of a circle.
