Literally wrote the book on arena rock, great guitar work and Freddie Mercury had one of the greatest vocal techniques in all rock music. They are played to death, but most people only know 3-4 pieces anyway, I recommend their back catalogue as a great place to start understanding just how great the band was. For a quick example, check out the vocals in All Dead All Dead for how good Freddy's voice is.

If you compare the music they made to their predecessors and what it would be like hearing that shot during the 80s you'd get it.
