I see a large tendency for the western person to enjoy it, they can't accept in their mind that it's a Japanese creation. Instead they have to tell themselves that it's probably based off a western movie or western celebrity or some other thing etc.
This then allows them to enjoy it, as they are basically claiming credit for it in a way and don't have to enjoy it while thinking it was a foreign creation. This goes for anything, confirmation bias is used strongly for them to convince themselves of these things.
Anime is one example of this, the fathers of anime existed in the early 1900's. Anime itself as in what resembles modern anime (the style of how characters look) has only been around though since the 80's.
Though some western anime fans don't like the idea that any character is meant to be Japanese and also don't like the idea that it's a Japanese creation.
So instead they note that one anime creator who made Astroboy in the 50's said that one of his influences was Disney. Therefore this type of western fan then convinces themselves that not only was it this anime creators who made Astroboy, but all of the ones before him (even before Disney) and even the modern anime style is also a copy of the Disney style (even though it looks nothing like it).
But this is what they have to tell themselves to enjoy anime, to feel like it's their own creation or something. For some reason accepting that it's a Japanese creation triggers some fans.

Jiu Jitsu is another thing, it's from Japan. Yet Americans fans of Jiu Jitsu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu insist it's a Brazilian and western thing and that the Japanese learned it off the west.
Yet the history blatantly shows the Japanese Jiu Jitsu practitioners that taught the Gracies and Brazilians which lead to the Brazilians making BJJ.
For some reason, there are some people who just can't accept that something they like came from a place that had nothing to do with their own people. It's like it's impossible for these people to enjoy something if they don't think it originally came from themselves or something.

Most Japanese musicians have at least a few western fans, and if the western fans notices even a few seconds in even a single song that remind them of something in a western song, then automatically the western fan decides that the Japanese artist learned everything they knew off the western artist etc.

Another thing is pornography, if a western person sees that Japan has pornography. They invent the history in their head, telling themselves that the west introduced pornographic magazines and then the Japanese learned what porn is. Musically, Japan has the second biggest music industry in the world and create far more unique music than any western country does. With more unique themes also in video games with music than the west ever can create. Western games are created with generic cinematic music, Japanese games use memorable themes (like the final fantasy series).
