My pitbull is the best dog ive ever had and i grew up with 3 top tier golden retrievers along with many other breeds. He was thrown out of a truck as a puppy and we found him so i think he has a weird "these people saved me" outlook on life.

The issue with pitbulls is quite simple. They have very powerful jaws, and an instinct to hold and tear. Many members of the pit bull population have genes from dogs breed for aggressive tendencies, and overall strength. Any beagle can bite you, "it's how the dog is raised, not the breed". However a beagle is less likely to perform catastrophic damage. That's the be-all end-all of the pit bull issue. If pits were built like wiener dogs, no one would care if there were incidents. The fact is, the dogs are very strong, very protective, and are breed to be this way. Any incident with a pitbull can be severe. On the same token, while most young adults can be exposed to firearms, as a whole gun owners stress safety first and foremost. Why? Because the damage from a gunshot wound is severe. Society as a whole is less safety conscience about NERF guns, because the "damage" from a NERF gun is significantly lower.

Pitbulls need to be treated with respect, because of the damage/injury they can cause. Frankly this is true of most large dogs, but the specific physical characteristics and demeanor of pits make it especially true.

yeah but when you look up ownership statistics you also learn that the majority of the owners are middle-low to low income people. People who won't/can't afford proper training or the care a dog needs or who live in environments or lifestyles that reward aggressive behavior.

Pits aren't overly aggressive or territorial dogs, they're dogs. Compare their statistics to chihuahuas and you'll see a similar correlation in relation to behavior and environment. The big decider that marks the large breed over the rat dog is capacity to inflict violence. Both have similar favorability among the same economic and ethnic class of owners and both have high tendencies to be aggressive.
