No because jet engines don’t work at that size

no because the jet engine is weighing the treadmill down. treadmills dont generate much lift, thats why you never seen them take off with a person on them.

No, because no air movement beneath wings

No you gotta think about the physics of this. No air is passing under it.

Underrated post
I chuckled

turns out the lift from the plane will negate the lack of traction on the ground eventually and it will take off. Any upwards thrust at all, even minor, will launch the plane.

OH. MY. GOD.

All you stupid make-pretend physicists have absolutely NO IDEA what the fuck you're spouting out of your ass-mouth. OF COURSE it will take off. The consistent increase invelocity will achieve a high enough scalar quantity to create sufficient drag - and that will lead to the airliner to take off. There even has been experiments with treadmill-esque runways. The only reason this was never commercialised is the insane cost and maint. How do you losers think figher planes take off of aircraft carriers? They take off because the ship is going IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. Honestly.

Sometimes Yea Forums is baffling with it's own stupidity.

>They take off because the ship is going IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION
lol no

The wheels are free spinning so the jet would quickly run into the twin towers of the treadmill and crash.

Friendly reminder that drag is required to cause lift

Wait til you realise you’re the retarded one

No. As to take off the wings need a strong wind(at least 500km/h) facing them. This is why actual planes are tested by blowing wind at them, and not by placing them on a treadmill.

The weight of the plane is either too light to not be thrown off the treadmill or too heavy to allow the treadmill to move, if the treadmill DOES manage to keep the plane on the treadmill while building up potential energy, if the treadmill stopped cold turkey the plane would fly forward and probably generate lift due to the sheer speed it would be hurdled at.

no ones this dumb

Do you know anything about aerodynamics? Do you even know what wings in planes are for, dumbass?

yes, because when i throw the plane at your head for being a complete moron.

this is why it wont work

This is something for the African aviation team to try out. They still seem to think that if something looks enough like a plane it'll work.

yea i think so but the treadmell would have to go super fast and maybe it can't go that fast

>No because analogies have to make sense, not just suit your agenda

Attached: analogy.jpg (622x464, 89K)

It wont work even when it takes off why?

Because its wingspan, holly shit how are people this fucking stupid.

Let me brake through the wall of irony and false irony over here. Plane takes off. Wheels spin freely and never actually encounter more friction than is required to spin themselves and if they don't slip from over acceleration their velocity relative to the aircraft will be V_treadmill+[some coriolis components]. THAT being said, the aircraft will proceed along the guides of F=MA..

If a lawnmower can I don't see why not.

>There is no need to be upset

Jimbobs=non-flustered

No because it'll just sit unused in the corner of the living room of the overweight mom who bought it just like every other treadmill.

yes, it will take off. off the treadmill backwards and straight to the ground. fucking retards

Obviously it won't work because niggers!

Plane won't fly because niggers

...are stealing it.

if treadmill is significantly bigger it will

Physics major here - so the big question is about lift. If the plane is stationary relative to the air in, say, the room, it won't generate lift. However, if there were a slight angle to the jet turbines, there could be a slight vertical component to the air stream ejected from the back of the turbines, which could theoretically cause the plane to take off, but only if the angle were sufficient or the plane really light - think of those military planes with vertical takeoff; the props literally rotate straight up and down, and that does the trick

No lift. It won't work.

Soo he...was behind that...

That was the most terrible flex I have ever read. This is literally grade school common sense.

How badly are you failing physics? The jet engines work against the air, not the ground so the treadmill can spin as fast as it wants it'll just cause the wheels to freewheel that much faster. Now if the question took into account the possibility of breaking the wheels through friction fast enough that the plane starts dragging on its landing gear or the belly once` that breaks it could be possible, but you'd have to cause wheel failure pretty quickly.. Don't think it would happen.

Is it?

Yes, it will take off. Also, if you are plummeting to your death, jump before impact & you'll be fine.

Retard level bait

this. if uplift through relative velocity is engough, this.

What about the vertical component of the air stream, assuming an angle in the turbine relative to the ground? Read much? Presumably, the engines are on to provide thrust to keep the plane on the treadmill, as unless it's frictionless, the plane would be dragged off at some point

Not that user, but you're saying (A) planes take off because there's air moving around the wings and (B) if the plane was blowing on the ground it might get off the ground.......... right?

You had it, then you made a stupid.

I'll just leave this here
google.com/amp/s/blog.xkcd.com/2008/09/09/the-goddamn-airplane-on-the-goddamn-treadmill/amp/

If the plane were very light and/or the angle and thrust significant enough, yeah; force balance

Yeah dude, bad flex

>Presumably, the engines are on to provide thrust to keep the plane on the treadmill,

No, the engines are on to take off. The treadmill is on to try (and fail) to stop it. Given a long enough treadmill the plane will take off. Given too short a treadmill the plane will flop off the end of it then take off from whatever surface it fell on.

"Planes take off when air moves over the wings but if you pointed the jet engine at the ground it might work"

Yes. That is barely above basic common sense.

No, the Jews stole the plane and charged 4.99$ for using the treadmill

Attached: 1542030752156.jpg (960x750, 99K)

if the treadmill remains at a constant speed and jet engines can overcome that speed plane will take off
if treadmill sppeds up at constant rate and jet engines cant overcome the increasing speed it will not take off

this one is right. propulsion is entirely the turbines. the wheels don't matter. so if the treadmill was long enough it would take of just like on a regular field.

...not necessarily? If the engines are off, the plane gets knocked off the back; you could control the treadmill speed such it matches the velocity produced by the thrust, which I assume is the scenario; too fast or slow and the plane hits the front or falls off. If this matching condition is met, a perfectly flat set of turbines would result in the plane being "stuck" forever

It's just to say that's the one success condition; all explanations should come with caveats, and that's a practicable back door

Unless the wheels are truly frictionless, which they aren't, this isn't entirely true, and then you get into the issue of matching the treadmill speed to the speed normally produced at whatever thrust level the engines are at

Story of my life

But if the pilot had any inclination to take off he could easily overcome the treadmill and take off. So if you want to get picky go ahead and change the wording to can it take off, as the question intended.
