I have an ND RF, it's a 2017 so it's from before the power bump(which way at the expense of low end torque). I had a 2007 350z before, which made about twice the horsepower. I can't hit 70mph in second gear in the Miata, but I still prefer it to the heavy ass Z, it's just more fun to drive. To me, the FRS/BRZ twins are just unappealing. Sports cars should have only two seats, not some half-ass insurance seat in the rear. I do appreciate that they exist as there aren't enough RWD light weight manual cars being made.
I don't like that they took the spare off the back. I had a base model I4 one (gutless as shit) when I was a student and it still had the tire on the rear, made it look sportier. The brand new facelift looks really good IMO, but the 2006-2012 looked best.
They are designed so the fascia and outer parts break and crush to absorb the damage, protecting the occupant by increasing the deceleration time. Yeah when you wreck one it's fucked but you have a greater chance of coming out alive and uninjured. I mean basically you're throwing away a car by getting into a wreck but you have better survivability.
Its basically this also pedestrian crash standards since 2005 have made most cars look vaguely the same to comply and get a higher safety rating.

Power steering, ABS, traction control all standard. People drive a lot faster. Cars today say they'll stop for you if you don't pay attention. People pay less attention and follow closer. Etc
