Why are malls closing?

Why are malls closing?

Serious answer; They charge too much for rent to stores assuming another one will come crawling.

There was a mall around me (Key word was)that had new stores nearly every other week until they stopped. Eventually it was left with only a small food court, a JC Pennys and a dollar store before shutting down entirely.

At least where I live the entire town turned into a mall. It has a massive mall, has 3 towns that border it that have their own malls, yet there are stores on all the main roads.

Also 60 years ago it was all farm land.

Why would you want to go out when you can have your shit delivered

Society is collapsing. People are more interested in their phone than other people. They don't have the time or disposable income to spend on mall outings. A lot of malls have been completely taken over by shambling spics and niggers.

this, also online shopping is just outdoing them

you mock ^^ but its true. 90% of who you see at malls are what he described.

Can confirm, I used to work in a mall. Fear not though it's all being moved out to rich neighborhoods where nigger transit can't touch

Millennials amazon

This.
I live in Wichita, KS. We have two malls. The west one is a fucking dump full of underage girls pushing strollers with mixed race mutt babies in them. Almost all the chain stores have pulled out. What's left are some shitty "last chance" type of art galleries and clothing stores, all of which are absolutely doomed to failure.

The east mall is still decent, but every time I go there now, I get nearly trampled by wave after wave of Vietnamese kids who seem mostly oblivious to the world around them... Unless it's Sunday, when the whole mall gets lubed by the grease coming off the crowd of hispanic trash. Also niggers.

I fucking hate this town.

1. People buy stuff online now
2. Young people hang out online now
3. Typical mall anchor stores are department stores like Macy's, JCPenney, etc. The department store model -- "everything under one roof" -- is not nearly as popular as it used to be. If anchor stores leave, smaller stores leave too.

They charge too much rent for the stores to rent the spaces

Easier to shop online / return stuff online

People are becoming more introverted as time goes on

Cheaper to pay people in a warehouse than individual stores

Amazon is turning out to be even more toxic to society than Walmart was.

The suburban shopping malls were what was toxic to society. They put downtown shopping districts out of business before anyone outside Arkansas knew what a "Wal*Mart" even was.

>One billion per cent true
Well, if you think history began around 1990.

A M A Z O N

If I shit my pants while shopping on Amazon, will anyone even notice? What's the point?

This is some Rocky Balboa shit

I miss America.

Because it's after 10 PM.

I've just had way too many piss poor customer service interactions with Amazon. For the very reason we're complaining about in this thread: the loss of the human element in doing business.

It's cheaper to shop online and you don't have to fight for parking and elbow your way through hordes of niggers and retards to do it. Not a difficult concept.

No joke, I managed a Radioshack and an att in a mall any the rents were 12,000 and 15,000 a month! Compared to the 1500 a month stand alone store

>Amazon is turning out to be even more toxic
No matter. When Bezos' wife takes him to the cleaners in their divorce, Amazon will be toast, and soon to be the "AOL" of online retail.

i dont want to spend all my money and i can stay home and fap

come to Manhattan sometime user. you can sleep on my couch.

>only white racists buy anything

Walmart, McDonalds, and plenty of other businesses seem to be making plenty of money with the groups you're talking about.

Most of the malls out there are run by idiot hedgefunds and large companies who leveraged them out to the hilt.

One of them here in Ohio recently posted all their financial documents as part of a liquidation clause. They continue to make GREAT money but the last owner took out a $45m+ loan to put in their pockets over it. Every.Single.Retailer. at the location has a MANDATORY 3%-5% rent increase every single year. So the few retailers that stick around for 10+ years end up with massive compounding interest that's almost impossible to keep up with. So then the operations start cannibalizing themselves over time, capital expenditures get missed and things continue to go downhill.

The joos. The joos has won for good.

>I've just had way too many piss poor customer service interactions with Amazon.
I've only had one bad experience with them, and it was over something trivial: they sent me the wrong item on an $8.99 purchase and couldn't be bothered to fix it.

Because malls are filled with teenfags and niggers and I hate both

Movie theaters in malls the only reason they are still there at all.

Walmart is a part of the culprit as well. People if they go out, go where they wont be judged and can get stuff cheap. Small stores in malls cant compete and eventually malls close because rent cant be paid.

Walmart suposedly has this algorithm for where it puts up stores to make the most money. Like real computer science shit. But the problem with the model is it doesn't factor in when it consumes markets around it and no one longer can afford to live/support the walmarts. They'll close like the other big box stores and by then all the smaller stores will be gone. I supposed they would come back over time but I dont know if the economy at that point would be the same.

Its a scary end scenario if you can keep perpetuating the butterfly effect.

waste kys faggot

best answer

cell phones and internet

That's their mommas doing the shopping there. The punk-ass kids just go to the mall to cause shit and annoy the paying customers, because it's funny as hell, and no one's gonna stop them.

Amazon and Walmart happened.

Why go to a store when you can order everything you need online?
As far as social aspect, theres much better places to go than malls too, and not having to deal with mallrats elsewhere is also another plus.

I ordered a couch from a place in town. After the payment goes through they tell me it'll be 2-3 weeks until they get the fucking thing to a distribution center and then they'll call and set up delivery. It's now been 3 weeks and 2 days and no word from them. I just found the exact same couch on Amazon with prime shipping. I didn't even think to check Amazon for furniture. I'm going to cancel my order and order from Amazon. Even local stores that specialize in the specific product you want can't compete. Amazon's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Then you should like the piece that Calvin Trillin wrote for the New Yorker about the first food court. Its menu was determined by the economics of the mall and the results, in Trillin's hands, were comical. It's been preserved in one his books, either American Fried or Alice Let's Eat.
And, yes, you can find it on Amazon.

>She'll get half and he'll only be worth $60 billion or so
>Amazon relies completely on his personal wealth, not the other way around
>Without his wife he'll never be able to run a business successfully

What exactly is your argument here?

I made a $140 purchase that arrived with missing parts. Seller refused to help. Amazon would not refund or send me the parts. I left a bad review of both the item and the seller, Amazon took my reviews down. Complete no-win scenario. I had to do my best to buy my own parts for this lousy piece of furniture I bought based on measurements I took.

I talked to Amazon customer service a few times and they kept spouting shit about policy on how they deal with purchases from outside vendors and they only fulfill the order, everything is automated and the system won't let them do XYZ, etc etc. Done with their shit.

Meanwhile at my local mall, I can return clothes that I've already ripped the tags off of. Why? Bc I'm talking to a human. Makes all the difference.

Because people do their shopping online. Malls need to become places for specific entertainment and consumption. Movie theaters, laser tag, go karts, etc.

good get tbh

Attached: notblack.gif (607x609, 821K)

Even us 40s know is the answer. Mall kikes are all
>muh property values
>my rent
They won't admit retail is over and rent the space cheap for a farmer's market or paintball arena or something.

So don't buy from outside vendors. Buy from amazon directly.

Or even better, go to a fucking furniture store.

Because every good store that was around 15 years ago is gone now.

Suncoast, FYE, Sam Goody, Walden Books, B. Dalton, KB Toys... we don't even have Disney Stores at the malls here anymore. Sears is going, and JC Penny's days are probably numbered too

>Because he'll only be worth about $60 billion then
>Because Amazon relies completely on his personal wealth and not the other way around
>Because no man who gets a divorce is able to run a business

What exactly is your argument here?

Ugh, I hate fuckers like you. It's a pain in the balls to put tags back on things. If I had ANY leeway to tell you to fuck off, I absolutely would. From my and my coworker's perspective, if you're returning things without tags, you're basically just pawning them.

Used to do exactly that quite often

I recognize KB Toys, Sears, and JC Penny's. The rest I have no idea.

You're a bit of a retard, aren't you?

OR the manager of the store OKed the return and knows that corporate will just put tags back on it. Better to keep a happy return customer. They know me fairly personally now and I've spent a a shitload of money at that store so...

You seem to have taken a venerable French philosopher to a brothel again, young man, and have put Decartes before the whores.

yeah, sorry, I can't help it

Because it's late, go home cucktard

People used to go there to buy shit and socialize but now they just do that online.

jesus, Yea Forums really has been taken over by old people

This + socialism.

My wife abuses these generous return policies. She'll buy four different sets of bedsheets, try them all out for a few weeks, then return the three she doesn't like. Or maybe even all four.

We've also got a young kid, and she'll buy tons of baby stuff that's only useful for a few months (until the baby grows out of it) and return it right before the deadline.

It's pretty damn embarrassing to me, but she could care less.

let's see them tiddies

People like this are trash.

Fucking trash

sad but true.

fucking kids today are afraid of the real world

walmart, online shopping ect ect

Niggers

Attached: 1362688885887.jpg (400x400, 27K)

yikes....

Anchor stores keep the rent lower, I'm sure. One of the malls where I live is about to lose its Sears. It's the last anchor store there. I can't imagine it will last much longer after that. The are only a handful of stores left otherwise.

both are true.

I've seen more than one mall in my area suffer when the Metro (subway) was extended out to them. Once the nigs have access a mall is done.

im 37 years old... faggot

Those stores are gone because nobody wants the shit they sold. Even oldfags like me who grew up on it.

I miss the shack. Really knowledgeable people most of the time. One of the few places where you could get perf board

Teased hair...lol my sister used to do that

FYE, Sam Goody, Walden Books were some of my favorite stores. They always had the shit I was looking for.

They charge too much anyways, so who gives a fuck?

This. Can usually find cheaper online in a few minutes with free shipping.

Malls became a popular hang out for African American teens... They spend no money and only cause problems. Scares away white folks.

Lol STFU.

They had all the shit I was looking for, too... in 1995. The only time I ever buy CDs anymore is directly from the artist at live gigs, and even then I wish they'd just sell me a download key and split the difference.

lets think this one out.
1. the stores. some are specialty shops that deal with things you might want, but if the price is too high your going to turn away..and in malls it often is. toy stores are gone. mostly because parents get ipads or game systems for their kids. then when the brats get ignored we start to wonder why they hate the things we use to love. they would rather watch other play games on youtube then try them them selves. same with the stores. parents dont go in them anymore. kid wants X. store is often not selling X due to licensing agreements. so now they shop online. its cheaper, they have what their after. no need to look at anything else. (which is also the down side)

2. food. most restaurants want you to buy, but then they want you to hurry up and leave, so more customers can fill space. food court is an unwelcoming place ok to "rest" but you want out. plus mall workers resent that you only see them as "janitors" plus the food is lousy. good riddance subarros.

3. entertainment. movie theaters are starting to feel like a relic. yes its nice to have the "shared experiance" of big block busters. but how many of those movies were crap? yeah. most.
arcades? better games exist on your console you can play for free. its no longer a social thing to go do. beyond that...nothing.
book store? nope.
candy shop? nope
video store? if your lucky you get one of those trade in stores filled to the brim with awesome stuff you couldnt afford at the time that you want to buy now. beyond that ...nothing.

ever go to a concert at the mall? yeah no. if its not someshit like "bieber" is a school program. and NO COPYRIGHTED SONGS. just lame public domain crap.

malls are crap be cause our public is crap.
how many malls are doing fine? bet ya its the ones that are actively trying to be fun to go to.

Over saturation.

There are more malls in America now than there have ever been. There are almost 20% more malls in 2019 than there were in 2001.

Only if you count strip malls with a grocery store and a Dollar Tree. Not the same thing at all.

Nah, the new thing are the trendy faux-neighborhood malls with trendy stores and condos above. Basically upscale city living in make-believe suburban landscapes. Three were built within 20 miles of me in the last five years. I worked in an upscale wine store in one of them.

spotted the amazon shill.
ordered a couch from a local store, had to order it in. phone call 3 days later. arrange saturday noon delivery when i'm home. delivery shows up at noon. company hauls away old couch and trash from new couch.

that's called service. get that from amazon.

Attached: 1F191ADE-E703-4B71-85FD-F2E9A2015D2F.jpg (260x194, 10K)

they'll steal everything they can. them and the spics. then try to return it for a refund. without a receipt.

why anyone would want to run a store anyplace with a sizable nigger/spic population is beyond me. AND have to deal with mall management? yeah, no.

Shrinking upper middle class, Amazon, higher prices, and stores that only apply to small demographics of the population.

I'd rather just get the same stuff for less money and faster. I throw away my own trash. I click that order button and I've got a whole team of robots and dipshits running around pissing in bottles to get it to me as fast as possible.

because they were built in once prosperous and growing neighborhoods that are now condemned as crack dens and gang turf.
There are plenty of malls opening still.

Very true, my friends mom owned a spot in the food court that she put us to work in. Damn rent was insane. Of course it was in South Bay Galleria over at Redondo Beach. Was fun working at the chicken place for a time since we didn't have anyone overseeing us.

Or it could be that brick and mortar can't keep up with the growing demands while amazon is doing exactly what people want. If the malls really wanted them out then they would hire police. Actual POLICE OFFICERS. That's what they do at my local mall. At least 3-4 cops patrolling at all times. During the holidays they had upwards of 8 cops in and around the mall.

Check them digits

amazon prime

Malls killed the downtowns
Internet killed the malls
What will kill the internet?

Sort your cunt of a wife out

Corporate doesn't put tags back on, the employees do. They look up the item in the inventory, they use a special printer to print out a new label, they manually write out a new sizing guide, they use a special little hook gun to attack the tag to a wire and affix it to the clothes, and then it sits on a shelf for 3 years because nobody wants to wear used clothing. It's not like they get sent back to the corporate office to be washed or anything.

The government.

>What will kill the internet?

Why spend more money than needed? Mall store prices are usually higher than other places, plus the extra money spent on gas to get there since you rarely see a mall within reasonable walking distance. Online shopping is more convienant are generally cheaper, even when adding shipping fees.

You mean the creepy shops with old people at the movies? What's a mall?

3D printers

that's like the modern day equivalent of having a wife making and mending your clothes. It's thrifty, Whereas most women would just order shit and let it pile up all over the house and then throw it in the trash, she's saving money. Sort your fucking noggin'

because buying useless shit was for the Boomers.

Also: Amazon

Attached: net neutrality logo.png (480x480, 19K)

Yeah... just like traffic laws ruined the automobile industry.

This is true. My parents still buy useless stuff; especially if it's 'on sale'.

hex. anything with 6 uses hex as the suffix. the hell did you come up with sixts?

and stand in line to use one of 2 open register while the other 10 are closed

Cars are not popular enough in the teen to 20’s age range enough to drive mall growth.

Online killed general dept stores.

High street / Main Street as a social location is making a comeback with niche retail.

I would turn it into a small hotel for that price

Online shopping. Yah baby.

Shopping online is better in almost every way, and people have taken notice.

Because Amazon.

80's = China
90's = Outsourcing
00's = Offshoring
10's = Real Estate Boom
2019 = Stagnant wages for decades, rents out of control, shrinking customer base (old folks dying off can't support shops like Sears), young people don't have jobs and are saddled with massive student loan debt.

I could go on but there are is an avalanche of reasons they are dying. Malls are actually kind of an indicator of the health of the economy. If they're closing, along with bigger retailers, it's a things going to shit.

Economic prosperity relies on a continuous flow of money through the economy, which includes the lower, middle and upper classes. Without this flow, things stagnate. Right now the concentration is at the top + there are so many tricks for them to push their money offshore (see panama papers). Nothing will be done. We're fucked.

Why bother jerking off to porn when life could be about meeting people and having a great time? I know the mall especially since the late 2000s has been shit but fuck man, there’s always beautiful women that I wish I could talk to there but now it being 2019 and people are more divided and shit it gets scary not going to lie. I wish we didn’t have to rely on fapping. I want a gf that isn’t antisocial or atleast has a fucking brain. Also yes malls take a fuck ton of your money.

Because you don’t have to be surrounded by packs of bus riding niggers to shop on Amazon.

Number of boomers who waste money on useless shit is equal to the number of millennials who spend their money on practical things, like dozens of tattoos
