Why do you (hopefully) wash yourself a couple of times a week besiedes not posing a health risk except when not done for a couple of years?
Because society has deemed that it doesn't want to smell your sweat. The repercussions are part of culture.
In the same way a lot of often arbitary rules have been come up with, in this episode of "irrational human behavior" it is circumcision.
Scientifically speaking the cons outweight the pros, but the factor of culture is not taken into account for.
People want to give their children the best possible chances in life, that includes having a junk that conforms with societies norms so their future girlfriend is weirded out by "that super weird foreskin".
People don't even remember it, you might aswell tattoo your baby.
