What is it about a college degree that's so magical?
I'm in the job market again - I'm one of those guys who has a ton of verifiable experience and I'm really good at what I do. I started university but dropped out because I was offered a high dollar job at big name company - 15 years later still haven't finished the degree.
I have a million certifications and am a recognized leader in the industry. Any specialized education I've needed I go and acquire myself, including things like project management. I also test upwards of 130 IQ with a 15% standard deviation.
Most recently a big university hired me to teach said subject as instructor, because I'm one of the few who know it. I'm like a unicorn.
Now some, if not most, recruiters/HR still won't bat an eye at me because I didn't finish university.
Why is this? Ignorance about the subject? Or are most recruiters / HR people so petty they cannot allow an uneducated person a position?
I used to get responses about not finished my degree, but now I'm being ignored outright. It's like they don't know what to say to someone who doesn't have a degree, but has taught at a major institution.
Have you ever talked to HR people? Most often they have some useless degree and no useful skills. The more you know the more they believe you are lying, because they know nothing, but believe to be more intelligent. If you don't have a degree, they can't cover their ass with excuses, if something bad happens. I bet you don't get replies, because you are too old by now and maybe because you claim to have too many skills. Try to get into a job by using your connections.

It's a silly thing. My resume is loaded with experience but I often get turned down because I only have an associates (and even that is just in film). Even the one who hired me had apparently misread and thought I had a bachelors all along.

It's all a fucking racket, no different than the mob. If you don't drop 20-100k into the education sector then the business sector will not so much as look at you. U have to grease the right palms

So white male late 30's / early 40s? Found your problem. Could be worse. I've got 2 graduate, 3 post-grad degrees and professional certifications (all STEM) and have been unemployed for over a decade. Once you get older they automatically assume your knowledge isn't as "fresh" and up-to-date" as someone right out of college (and that you won't work as cheap). Add to the fact that your bucking against diversity (read white guys need not apply) hiring and its an uphill battle.

You are so intelligent and experienced yet you couldn't figure out that you just need to lie in your resume and say that you do have a degree. What are the chances they will ask for a copy?

1. HR is full of retards. Most of whom are also libtards. They dont like hiring folks who didn't go through their indoctrination program (college) 2. College has reached a cultural icon status now, pushed by colleges themselves for profit. 3. It indicates that you can stick with something for at least 4 yrs

This. In my area to get a job as a librarian you need to have a Masters in Library Science. Unless your a Mexican, then they'll make an exception .

As opposed to my last job, which I stuck with for four years and only left because the owner of the business died, and even then I took care of him until the day he passed away.
