Pretty sure it's a scam, but how did he get a part of my password?

Change your password. Use unique passwords.

Yes I know, but how do I prevent this from happening again. Also he had an old password I haven't used in awhile.

check on haveibeenpwned

Cool never seen this site before.
Thx

It's a scam. 100%
Scammer has an old pw I haven't used in years.

There have been several hacks over the last decade. Some are known, some are still a secret. Data is traded. He probably bought a data set and is now sending mails to everyone in that set.

Just change your password and don't use a password more than once.

If you can still log in with the same password that means he doesn't have your password because anyone smart enough to steal your password would change it so you have to buy back your account. Use a random generator password at least 16 characters with symbols and keep a text file on a thumb drive or encrypted.

Was it something familiar to you? Like a loved ones name or favorite anime character? If so then it's more than likely someone close to you scamming. Find them and kick their ass.

Ive recieved a few, its worthless, ive even asked for said videos and never gotten responses. Its always a scam.

Like I said it's an old pw I haven't used in years. So I wouldn't even know what site he got it from. Anyways, I'm not worried.

Usernames and their passwords have been captured in leaks over the years.

The password they sent is associated with the email address you use.

Dont worry, they havent accessed your camera and recorded you masturbating.

But change your passwords.

Yeah someone like that sent me a email saying that they got my password for a file server data saying they're going to send it to the FBI if I don't want to be public arrested to pay them $300. Problem was on that motherfucker I didn't have anything that was illegal so yeah just change the password and say go suck his boy friend's ass.

I did, except it was a password from like 8 years ago so i send an email to them daily for about a week asking for the video so i could "confirm" its real...i just wanted to see if they actually had anything.
That was about a month ago. These threats dont really work for me as I havent had FB, IG, Twitter or any social media in years because im not a 13 year old girl

I'm not using this to be rude, I just don't know how else to quickly copy a Google search result without Metadata.

It's old software.

well-known scam.
you can find that email online, search in google.
they get info from old data breaches.
as others have said, don't re-use passwords.

It’s a scam
Got the same months ago, whole thing was in German, said that he hacked into my computer and “seen my porn havits” and if I don’t give 500$ worth of bitcoins my informations will be shared blah blah blah

Nothing happened

He has a key logger on your device. He sends this to get you to change your password for your important digital documents/services then really puts you through the ringer. Don't change your passwords yet. Get some antivirus software and clean out your systems.

He didn't get your password, this is a scam going around. They spoofed your email address to make it look like it came from your mailbox - check the headers and you'll see it was sent from some random mail server in like .cz or something. Delete it, change your password to something unique and/or enable 2-factor if you wanna be extra safe, and move on with your day.

post your password here for verification. otherwise, fake story.

>how did he get a part of my password?
Leaks, it could be from 10 years ago who knows. Millions of logins and associated passwords are out there. This guy is trying a different tactic, he's trying to scare you into getting something from you. His "proof" is that he has some familiar characters to you. He's also doing this to thousands of other people, he'll only follow up on those that respond. If you don't respond it's not worth his time since he can't actually do anything.

Change password to a random string. Don't use dictionary words. Just hit random keys, like faskjh2hjthjksd1!!32. Profit.
