Well, it could have been aliens, just compare for instance the sumerians' perception of their origin (big bad bois from another planet that enters our orbit every ... was it 3800? years) to that of everyone who came after them (big bad boi outta nowhere made all this shit from nothing).

The more likely answer is though, ancient humans probably knew better how to deal with stone than we do today. Nowadays we are getting lazy and build shit that's very fragile because it's easier to replace some metal once in a while than to build a sustainable structure made of heavy-ass rocks you can't just melt together if a cut is wrong. I do, however, believe that mainstream archaeologysts are trying to hide something (maybe ancient high technology? who knows), otherwise alm these egypitian dudes dedicating their entire lives to the pyramids hadn't been denying another chamber in the great pyramid or below the sphinx.

Those who want it to be ancient stone cutting methods (sand, water, ...) don't know how fucking much time it takes to cut one inch into limestone with this.
