to relax

To try to drown out sorrows or to fulfill an addiction.

Self medicating types abuse. Stop abuse.

this

Nothing wrong with having a couple of beer a couple days a week. If you drink to get drunk every time you drink, you've got problems. Not necessarily a drinking problem, but you got some shit you need to work out and drinking ain't gonna work for ever.

if you have to ask then you are not human.

for a bit of relaxation which turns into happiness and feeling like everything is good

I don't particularly care to do so, but some people find it stressful to be focused. Drinking makes things a bit fuzzier. It makes you perceive the world as less complicated.

if you don't get drunk every time that you drink then what is the point of drinking alcohol to begin with.

I get drunk every night, and have a good job and a good relationship and live a generally good quality of life.

What problems do I have?

to temporarily stop the sad chemicals in my brain by flooding it with the feel good ones.

The same reason we do anything: our own happiness.

>What problems do I have?
liver

Inhibition of higher cognitive functions, which leads to lessening of anxiety, letting go of troublesome thoughts and memories, and lowered social inhibitions

Release of dopamine, especially in those with the "alcoholic gene", but also the general population, leading to feelings of pleasure, relaxation and reward

Because it feels nice.

>if you don't get drunk every time that you drink then what is the point of drinking alcohol to begin with.
This.

Socially drinking is a great way to get laid.

You don't have anything good in your life that makes you happy? Like, there isn't a less destructive way to make yourself happy?

>if you don't get drunk every time that you drink then what is the point of drinking alcohol to begin with.
To relax and wind down.

Youre either a sperg or a creep.

exactly, getting drunk is how I relax and wind down.

I don't do anything stupid, but I'm definitely drunk and always show up and achieve at work the next day and come home and be a good husband.

Alcohol is a powerful anti-anxiety agent. Apply that as needed.

When I'm drunk I find it easier to filter out all the things that stress me out. All that's left is someone who's able be happy.

pre drinks and one night stands with drunk girls.

Do you have a hard job? Is your job very demanding physically or mentally?

Sounds depressing desu

well i cut down my drinking to once a month because of exactly that. i wanted to make room for other shit i liked to do rather than waste my weekend away drunk

Disabling inhibitions which causes bigger dopamine hits which means that activities you normally wouldn't do have more valence (which is the cause of greater 'risk taking behavior' i.e. stupid shit) and all 'rewards' just generally feel better.

Also in my experience alcoholics just generally have more fun and those stories they can remember are way more interesting than anything I get up to in my sober life. If you can't accomplish anything or if you've been denied opportunities, you go "fuck it" and chugg.

Why don't you fix the the problem instead of getting drunk and ignoring it. Don't tell me you don't have any, your so stressed you gotta get drunk to not feel that way.

You're probably some neet. Getting drunk at the end of a stressful work week is pretty satisfying. Just don't do it too often

been cutting back on drinking and smoking more weed.

See that's my point, getting drunk is a waist of time and alcohol, usually.

First you feel good and then you feel really bad for a short time
It's like a reverse jogging that requires less of an effort

I remember a quote from Shane McGowan years ago where he said that smarter people tended to become drunks (or words to that effect). Since then I have thought about all of the people I have known who were boozehounds and I think he is on to something. It might be a means of coping with living in a world infested with drooling simpletons.
t. 151 IQ, alcoholic, just cracked my fifth after-work beer.
