Remember kids. Hogan's heel turn launched the second wrestling boom in North America. Austin's heel turn killed the fucking industry and has yet to recover.

Nah, people was still watching even during the Invasion angle. It was Triple H burying everyone, along with the brand split, that killed wrestling as we know it.

Thats not Hunter

Dude, the ratings nosedived during 2001. It was that Austin heel turn that killed shit, but more because he was still white hot and didn't need a heel turn.

>Most popular wrestler ever
>Kills wrestling
Stoooooopid you're stupid

in all honesty the heel turn itself wasn't even that bad
nor was Austin's heel work
he produced some of his best work in 2001. Especially late on when he became >le Paranoid Rattlesnake, threatened by RVD

it was Vince's absolutely awful handling of the Invasion angle that ruined WWF

yeah true, people were still watching but when Jericho won the title and then Triple H came back on RAW and it looked like they were setting up Gaytch winning the Rumble and then winning the title at Mania, people starting tuning out. When he actually won the Rumble and it was all but confirmed, they tuned out in droves.

>people were still watching
nah

hi nashetty

hi hunter

>Carries WWE all throughout the 2000's, all the way up to present time, BTFOs Austin by giving Smackdown higher ratings than RAW.

why peoples disliked heel austin? any reasson?

kek

Not even a Nash deal people tuned out as soon as Austin turned heel

Casuals just weren't tired of him. Austin turning heel basically killed what was left of the business in America.

With the lack of legit competition it was inevitable. X7 felt like a mostly satisfying conclusion to a saga, a good series finale. I know I felt like how do you top that even then. Maybe they wrote themselves into a corner turning him heel but I'm not so sure they could have sustained that red hotness for too much longer. Less was at stake and so much was already so well covered. Sometimes all you can do is peak. WCW couldn't maintain it either.

>X7 felt like a mostly satisfying conclusion to a saga, a good series finale.
Fuck off, that heel turn was lame as fuck. Him turning heel was an utter shitty way to end that era.

Did Austin and Mr. Perfect legitimately not like each other?
I was watching Austin vs. Perfect and Perfect was wrestling stiff and practically no sold a Stunner.
And Austin gave Perfect a stiff chair shot to the head in another segment.

>sets the bar so high nobody else can carry the E

Based Perfect protecting the business from simps who turn heel too soon.

The whole event, you crybaby. It was the best of the era. And it signalled the end of the ratings war. A shocker ending doesn't really destroy it. I still don't even mind it. They couldn't have milked that feud forever anyway.

>seve
whut?

>The whole event, you crybaby.
Eh even then not really. That shocker ending made no sense especially since Austin was still white hot. I get if he's cooling down but he had NO signs of cooling down then. A legit braindead decision, and only braindeads like it.

From most reports he was cooling down and Rock was taking over that spot. I can see this is just gonna be you moaning either way.

>From most reports he was cooling down and Rock was taking over that spot.
Rewatch that shit. Rock was the one getting the boos, this is coming from a Rock fan, and they had to take away antiRock signs week after week during the feud. You're reports are bullshit.

*Your
whatever

>in Texas
>Rock getting booed
You don't say

Nigger, I'm talking about the entire feud not just X7. That entire first quarter of 2001 people were starting to get tired of Rock and were behind Austin.

bump to fuck over a waifu thread

it was 23 that ruined everything not 17

Turning Austin heel was one of the worst decisions ever. It ranks right up there with ending the streak and pushing Miz into the main event.

Ratings were still good despite Austin's heel turn. The Monday Night Wars was over, so wrestling didn't feel as intriguing as it once was. Putting the World Titles on vanilla midgets was the deathblow to wrestling.

Go to bed, Nash.

TV ratings and ppv buyrates plummeted immediately after X7

Yeah they should've put the the world title on Shawn Stasiak

That would raise the ratings through sheer morbid curiosity.

Sorry, but the reality here is that not everyone is as smelly and ugly as you when it comes to objective wrestling preferences.
Compare 2004, 2011, 2014, and 2015 ratings to 2001.

The Rock vs. Shawn Stasiak would be more entertaining than another Seth Rollins vs (Insert darling here) match.

Sorry but the reality is you can't read.

Just admit you get horny watching tall muscular men, you idiot, it's even easier than writing all that shit out

not to mention a lot of those numbers technically disprove his theory

>Projecting his homosexual tendencies on others
People like you are the ones who've literally discussed about which NXT wrestler you'd go gay for on wrestling forums and boards, not me. I just like people on TV who don't look like they belong at Wal-Mart or Taco Bell as an employee. That was normal the last time I checked.

Just come out of the closet bro

I get not liking some legit vanilla midgets, but replacing them with vanilla giants is just as retarded.

The problem wasn't the heel turn, the problem was the complete change in character and the stupid unbelievable stories he was placed in. Why WWE feels the need to turn strong babyfaces in to chicken shit heels is beyond me. Once he split from Haitch he was just another cheating heel.

Because it was fake. Now, I'm not pretending anyone over the age of 5 didn't know everything was fake during the attitude era, with cult leader undercarder, and shit like that but characters like Austin or Foley were "real" characters who people could believe and attach themselves to. No matter what Austin did, the fans cheered because they liked him, not because they were supposed to cheer because he was a good guy. He would just interrupt random matches sometimes, stun everyone, face or heel and everyone would still cheer because fuck it it's Austin and I like him. So when Austin makes this blatently fake wrestling style "See get it I'm a bad guy now" heel turn it just turned a lot of people off, because it recreated that disconnect about the whole business.

based

They took their golden era Hogan and turned him into Hollywood Hogan before it was time and people were tired of him. With no huge angle to get it over with it was just a Russo lite angle where they joined forced cuz 'swerve bro! hes now WITH the authority!'

This, they shot their load way too soon.

What made the greatest number of fans eventually throw up their hands and say “fuck this company” was the McMahon family being shoehorned in as the main focus of everything for literally years. The Invasion angle was the worst and most clearly pointless example and fans tuned out in droves.

Fuck man, you're right. That too was egregious.

The majority of people watching in 98-01 weren’t longtime fans. Most of the audience were new viewers who had only tuned in to watch Austin feud with Vince. Unlike longterm fans they hadn’t been watching long enough to be inoculated against the retarded nature of wrestling storylines like we are; eg established good guys who suddenly turn into bad guys without regard to continuity or narrative logic.

As a kid at the time I was 100% into everything the WWF did all the way through the AE. The McMahon family Invasion dram was the first time I can remember feeling genuinely insulted and disappointed as a fan, not because an angle had gotten the desired reaction but because the company had made a stupid creative decision behind the scenes. I think a lot of people today underestimate how much of a turn-off that really was.

I was still all for it, but I was probably way younger than you as well. But yeah that entire year was bleh after X7

AEW WAS ALWAYS SUPERIOR LMAO

>Austin's heel turn killed the fucking industry and has yet to recover.
It was nonsense for Austin to fight vince for nearly a decade just to join him. >ranks right up there with ending the streak
Giving a nonworking shitter like Greenberg a streak in the first place was the problem. Regal rightfully exposed the jew. Bill should never have been in the main event and putting him there so fast ensured he would never improve.

>*kills wrestling*
>Wrestling is still somehow alive and well

Hi Riddle!
