what do we think about this match?
Now that the dust has settled
don't watch gook shit, don't care
Overrated and wasn't that good. Still the best match of night but barely 4 stars
I didn't watch it but I'm assuming there were lots of flips.
Based but fuck Razer
Still frontrunner for MotY which says something because this year has been fucking absurd.
Excellent match, good contrast between them because Tanahashi didn't do much in the way of moovz compared to Kenny but made the match with his babyface acting.
If that's the last match Omega ever has in the big leagues, he can be proud.
>wearing neon green gaymer tights alongside half of a bargain bin Party City knight costume for one of the biggest matches of your career
absurdly mediocre.
last omemega match in njpw, therefore it was bases
American wrestling has been mediocre this year I agree
THE ONE WINGED ANGEL SEEKS TO TAKE FLIGHT
WILL THIS BE _________________ ?
gook shit, lmao.
Looks like Mac, Dennis, and Charlie’s chicken outfits
the right guy went over
the right guy went over thats for sure
based
Japan needs another one
You mean shit. Japanese wrestling has been very mediocre.
not enough dead children for ya?
It was great. Kenny beat the shit out of Tana, but Tana completely missed catching Kenny’s Terminator dive and that had to fucking hurt.
It’s also the last time Kenny looked good before he got weird and bloated like he is now.
GOAT tier match. The build up to it was based because it was too kino for simple minded simps who can’t comprehend in the grey storylines.
Yeah both were shades of gray, it really depended on your perspective. Both put enough out there to either be the face or the heel. They blended real life into the story rivalry perfectly (difference in philosophy, Tana the Jap veteran not liking Kenny's ironic post-wrestling style. Kenny saying "If Tanahashi wins, New Japan is fucking dead."
And I haven't rewatched it since, but I remember the match being really great. Better than I expected. I was scared their styles would clash and it would be shit. But no, they rolled together very well. Match had everything, action and momentum-wise - but most importantly, it had the feeling of the story, the premise, and the clash of the personalities, deeply infused into it. It was a real epic.
Even better than Okada-Omega?
Possibly. It was different. Okada-Omega (1, but also the subsequent ones) was a real sporting contest. There wasn't a personal hatred or a philosophical clash. They were sporting contests between two guys trying to be the best, who also respected each other's ability.
This was a different vibe. Less about sporting excellence, trying to be the best, and more about the philosophical/personality clash.
And then all the small things were done right too. The video package. The theme song was kino. The presentation of everything. Kenny's entrance music. Their respective attires (attire is an overlooked part of big matches. Austin and Rock are anomalies - no one else can pull off plain black panties and put put on kino visuals. Everyone else needs some color. Kenny and Tana both had good colors - and they clashed.)
