Kinda weird seeing old school shapes without the same old graphics. I like it. Might get a scram skate when its time to guild a wide boy. Thanks dude.
Ryan Cox
*build* a wide boy
Noah Long
I never knew we had a skating general on here. What do real skaters think of the Tony Hawk games?
Nolan Morris
How do I start a skate scene in a third world country ?
Brody Carter
Let lil kids ride your board and maybe they can try to get one of their own, start small
Asher Thompson
Reminder to skate switch every sess. Also, morning skatepark with no scooter kids is amazing. Music for this feel?
Luke Lopez
In fighting games we have this absolutely legendary video called Moment 37, pretty much everyone knows it and it got people interested in the genre, it's ingrained in our collective minds in the community. What's the skateboarding equivalent?
I'll be looking through my liked videos for a skate moment 37. In the meantime this is obligatory skate M37 youtu.be/jQEcKzpQO9U
Wish i could find a clip with just the crowd noise and no fucking narration.
Owen Davis
Cool

I DON'T WANNA BE TOLD TO GROW UP
Jonathan Butler
at this point most people skate because of those games, directly or indirectly. i predate them but that makes me a fucking dinosaur.
Gabriel Baker

Probably some Rodney Mullen video but it's honestly different for everyone there are a lot of amazing skaters.

lOOK IM GETTIN FRUSTRATED HERE I CANT GET THE OLLIE RIGHT
Look im starting to wonder if i should wax my shoes or not cuz i cant seem to get my shoe to glide on the grip tape. Idk if its maybe im holding back out of fear of damaging the shoe (ironic isnt it)
I'm sorry skaterbros, I always thought skaters were dumb cliquey cunts, but in my dealings with them at least online they've been nothing but helpful and supportive
Grayson Gonzalez
This
Carter Martinez
i'm glad you guys are still here
Landon Nguyen
are you an 8", 8.25" or an 8.5" guy?
Robert Fisher
My girlfriend told me 5" was average :(
Nathan Hughes
8"
I'm thinking of going wider but I lose some tricks when I do but it's comfier bombing hills and shit with a wider deck so I'm pretty conflicted
Jeremiah Roberts
Thinking of going wider(8.5+) I mean
Owen Carter
thoughts on minibmx? i don't know where else to ask on Yea Forums, I have some extra cash and I think it would be fun, did only skate tho.
I'll ride anything from 8" to 8.25". Mostly 8" and 8.125".
You mean 7.5"?
Hunter Taylor
Is Lords of Dogtown an accurate history?
Tyler Davis
Lords of dogtown is a gringy dramatization. Watch Dogtown and Z-boys instead. Documentary with footage and interviews. Both tell the same story, one is from the horse's mouth.
Know your history, lads!
Kayden King
Watch loveletters
Nicholas Davis
Watch Gleaming the Cube
Parker Roberts
>A California skateboarder (Christian Slater) solves and avenges the death of his adopted Vietnamese brother. Doesn't sound like a documentary. I'm really interested in the history and so I can not be a filthy secondary
>Skateboarding is an actual crime What the fuck bros, that can't be true right?
Brayden Myers
Also what's the deal with Thrasher and where can I learn this sort of unwritten rules on how different companies are viewed?
Jackson Russell
Thrasher is like the Hollywood of the global skate industry. The Rolling Stone or Playboy of skate magazines. Skate brands featured by Thrasher get the most exposer.
Skate companies are viewed through the image that they foster.
Braille, for example is an Independent board brand founded on YouTube by a Youtuber. The brand was built off of clickbaiting children into watching skating videos for easy Youtube money. It feels cheap and lame. Not the image Thrasher is trying to paint for themselves.
It's just business, user. Nothing personnel.
Benjamin Gonzalez
Thanks user, so what companies do skaters like? Actually are there any companies skaters like, or is being commercial seen as not with the rebellious spirit?
Cooper Powell
Thats what makes it based
Grayson White
The more I look into it the more I like it. Here's something that >Gets you healthy >Gets you outdoors >Is fun >Can be enjoyed with bros and make bros >Absolutely shit on boomers and pigs
Bentley Ortiz
Also my favourite part, the culture seems to entirely revolve around not being a fucking secondary poser
its a quick motion, and its not very dramatic. Every ollie tutorial you see is exaggerated pops from people who are very experienced it takes a while to get a super clean boned ollie, and that comes after you are 1000% comfortable on your board.
Jason Collins
>Front foot impossible >Late heel >fs shuv (1 foot stays on board whole time, actually kinda scary lowkey) >Kickflip sexchange >Ollie sexchange >Fakie bigspin Pretty much all i got, I cant treflip
Austin Wilson
I break boards often. I first switched from an 8'' to a 8.25, then 8.5'', then I had to take an 8.375'' as it was the closest one to 8.5'' and now I have to ride a 8.25'' but I might keep it.
Noah Martinez
I landed a three stair!
Bentley Diaz
I'm watching a few different skate videos, I don't understand how people determine the quality of different videos. I just googled something like "Most iconic skate videos" and checked them out, but I feel I'm missing a lot
Eli Martin
8.38 if I can help it but 8-8.38 is my zone. Independent, Bones, Powell Peralta, Spitfire, Thunder, Ace etc etc are all well respected companies. There are too many to name. At the risk of sounding like i'm bragging: too many to name that it would be like an autism post. Oh hell yeah, user. Ollie, or?
Jaxon Wood
>At the risk of sounding like i'm bragging: too many to name that it would be like an autism post. Poast bag
Wyatt Gonzalez
Skaters like a company they can relate to or one that emulates what they wish to become.
>are there any companies skaters like, or is being commercial seen as not with the rebellious spirit?
Well if you're the super hesh, rebellious type, I guess not. I just want to see a brand that fits my style and that puts out good street footage. And on the footage side of things there's lots of brands that I enjoy but I might not wear or buy because it's not me.
Commercialism isn't the risk. Becoming "played out" is. In this case the skate team realises the whole brand hinges on their fame and the team splinters into other teams or personal projects. Then the brand sells their valuable name to someone like walmart. World Industries for example.
Joseph Cox
My right foot hurts a bunch and I think it's swollen as well. Not even from skateboarding, but from wearing the wrong shoes the other day. Today's cruisin' oughta turn out fun.
Ethan Gonzalez
Brave heart
Jose Gray
I was supposed to go for skate on my way home from work today. Remember my board, but not my shoes.
Will I die if I skate in steel toe safety boots?
Jackson Thompson
Are you a skateboarder or do you just watch those videos for fun/entertainment? Also, what do you mean by quality? Tricks I presume, right? When it comes to skaters, we have a bunch of "iconic" skate parts and videos that might not seem as crazy as todays parts. When it comes to the difficulty of tricks, it not only depends on the base level you need to get to to be able to pull such a trick off, it also depends on the spot. If you, for example, do a BS Flip on a very short, steep mini bank it's much more difficult that doing it over a pyramid.
Also, every person looks for something different. Rails? - Nyjah Huston's OMFG Part; Zion Wright's Jupiter Rising part Stairs and big gaps? - Chris Joslin's True: Plan B Pt. 2 part Flatground? - Jonny Giger's Flatground Project, Battle at the Berrics Technical skating? - Shane O'Neill's Shane Goes part; Chris Joslin's UNSTOPPABLE part Unique bag of tricks? - Chris Haslam's Sterling Golden part; Jonny Giger's Street Part (2015) mork? - Mark Suciu
The guys here will be glad to answer your beginner questions I'm sure. The fact that you do not skate is teh definite reason it's hard for you to see the difference
Liam Howard
different user that is also interested in starting (again, (I used to skate as a wee lad)). I'm probably still fairly comfortable on board but is there a beginners list of things to learn first? Not just tricks but how to not die and stuff
Nicholas Reyes
Make sure you're cofortable riding around, riding down curbs, all kickturns and then shuv or ollie
Lucas Ross
but user your third world country started the skate culture
Anthony Jackson
>The cheapest deck is $80, not even accounting for trucks etc Is this normal or am I being fucked over by living in Australia again?
Connor Clark
I just started skating about 3 weeks ago and have been skating almost every day. Am I slowly killing myself? It feels like it.
Ryder Phillips
where you at? able to push, stay on the board etc?
Dylan Scott
I can cruise around just fine, able to kickturn, tail scrape, carve on even ground and can manual for like 3 seconds tops.
Bentley Moore
nice, in 3 weeks you're doing pretty well, you're just getting in shape tho re: dying
Pretty normal for quality gear. Skateboards ain't cheap, Australia factor isn't as high as it is on other goods
Bentley Williams
Just dug out my old skateboard and one of the wheels doesn't spin much, is it the bearings that a fucked? what do i get to replace them
Brody Ward
bones reds, super reds or race reds? is there really that much of a difference in performance between them to justify the increased price for the super reds and race reds?
just clean up the bearings a bit and put some lube on them, see if that makes a difference first.
Henry Williams
Tbh, plain old reds are fine. You can tell the difference between $3 chink bearings and reds on any board, but unless you're downhill racing long boards super high end bearings ain't gonna make fuck all difference
