Laurer would debut at the Anniversary show, added somewhat arbitrarily as special referee for a match between The Steiners and Kensuke Sasaki teaming with Hiroshi Tanahashi. Tanahashi was a surrogate for the departed Hiroshi Hase, springing up the card, but taking more than a few lumps in the process, being brutally suplexed by both Steiners and taking a Screwdriver from Scott for the loss. Laurer had limited physical involvement in the match, but would declare post-match that she was ready to fight anyone that could be put in front of her. The AJW crew entered the ring, ready to take the former Chyna on, but Laurer bailed, seemingly making future plans clear. Still, much as in the WWF, Laurer was resolute in wanting to face male wrestlers rather than other women, a move that lead to a diminished role for the women’s matches on the card before they disappeared altogether. Laurer too would be out of the company and seemingly wrestling at large by the end of the year.
We could've had a proper women's division if not for Chyna's erratic behavior.
