Jokes aside, what do you guys think of Shinji? At first, I hated him cause I thought he was a whiny brat, but these days he's kinda starting to grow on me. I especially like him in the Rebuilds, he seems to have more spine than in the original.

I used to relate to Asuka the most out of everyone in NGE, and she's still my favourite, but these days I think I am much more similar to Shinji.
It's a pretty terrible feel to just go from one dysfunction to another. Especially since I'm much older than them.

I think that trend of 'LOL SHINJI IS SUCH A PUSSY WHY WON'T HE FUCK GIRLS XD' trend has died though, I think a lot of it also comes from people being just really insecure of their masculinity and having to take it out on bisexual shy anime boys.

I feel like people would hate Shinji a lot less if he was a girl because his personality is so feminine and it upsets guys with fragile masculinity.

It's been said before that Eva becomes a better anime if you genderswap literally every character.
I'd argue this is because doing so actually makes far more characters "act like" their gender, rather than acting against the stereotypes, and ultimately a lot of people like it when characters (and real people, of course) fit stereotypes.
When you turn Asuka into a male character, for example, you simply get a typical hot-blooded ace pilot, up until shit goes south. I think what we actually got is far more interesting.

Eeeehhhh, I think this only works for Asuka and Shinji and even then Asuka's pretty feminine with her crush on Kaji and I don't think you could really pull of that scene with her and Rei with two guys or a guy and a girl since Asuka was on her period.

Rei is pretty traditionally feminine since she represents how the 'traditional Japanese woman' is meant to act and Kaworu is androgynous leaning towards masculine.

I wouldn't say it makes it a better anime, it just makes things more conventional. The inversion and examination of gender roles is an interesting part of Eva.

There's more than just that. Misato is a hot-blooded, beer-swilling commander that drives a sports car. Kaji behaves like a femme fatale character, and does more traditionally feminine things than Misato, gardening, being tidy and being the more nurturing of the two towards the pilots.
