It's been happening since the mid 90s as sheets and scoop websites took off. The business was exposed so how legitimately tough you look means less after the death of kayfabe. Now "fans" just want to see action packed dance routines where midgets bump around from spot to spot in rapid sucksession. When kayfabe was alive, wrestlers didn't have to hurt themselves as much, and could get away with 3 minute headlocks or arm twists under the reasoning that it was wearing the opponent down. Since a smaller body will get hurt less taking more bumps, and can physically move faster, the advent of the concept of "workrate" led to smaller shitters just doing glorified tumbling routines where they land on their backs and necks instead of their feet. Look at the typical build of today's shitter - it's the same as a male olympic gymnast almost. Wrestling may as well just turn itself into a subset of gymnastics and dance, and just have expert judges throw signs with numbers on them after a spot or after the whole match. Then after the match, instead of an announced winner, they can have a score posted like they do after a floor exercise or figure skating routine. Maybe wrestling wants to be classified like a real sport again after Vince exposed it as a show to save money.
