Foley was a good traditional wrestler and great promo first and a death match wrestler second. I don’t think that’s a contradiction. Foley always got himself over as a face or heel even without garbage wrestling because he just understood the basics of the business well. Cornette is probably familiar with that side of Foley in WCW etc more than he is with the garbage wrestling stuff.

There are many good "death match" wrestlers today, but he will never admit it. Off the top of my head, Sami, Jun Kasai, Violento Jack, Nick Gage (Huge improvement in recent years), more I can't remember. All good wrestlers. But they haven't been in the business for a few decades so they are "outlaw mud show wrestlers". He loses me when he rants about the death match stuff while being completely oblivious to the scene.
