The Civil War was not fought for that reason at all. The North's industry was much more secure and profitable due to its diversity when compared to The South. The Republican government at the time wanted to increase export taxes and abolish slavery both of which would drastically impact South's economic sustainability and culture. In this way, The South was acting against government overreach. The North however, in their quest to abolish slavery, misused government power to do so and gave false promises that could not be met. During the Civil War, the Emancipation Proclamation free ONLY The Southern slaves and not the Northern slaves. American Schools intentionally ignore this fact. What is also ignored is how the Democratic party was founded to uphold slavery and keep government small. Whereas the Republican party was founded to end slavery and polygamy, and tended to advocate for bigger government. Sometime along the way the Democrats and Republicans switched ONLY on the their stance regarding government power, not racial equality. In fact, throughout the 19th and 201th century, Democrats voided AGAINST equal rights for non-whites and women. This held strong until the Civil Rights Act which I believe was filibustered for nearly 200 days by Democratic voters. Socialism is a bankrupt and inept concept that appealed to minorities who were intentionally mislead and being used by Democratic voters. This promise (with no intention to deliver) by Democrats is what has minorities voting against their own self interests by supporting Dems all the time. Because they are being used by people pretending to be virtuous.
