How on earth did WCW mess this up?

Sting should've got a fucking tan.

>ref fucks up the count
gee I wonder

Sting didn't smile when he saw Eric that day.

Anything involving Bret Hart normally makes things worse.

True he almost killed wwf but Vince sent him to wcw to kill that instead

By having Nick Patrick as the ref.

the finish with the fast count didn't work for hogan, brother

>how did wcw mess this up
Same way they messed everything else up. I can't say it though because I'll be banned.

>1) Eric Bischoff, the head of WCW at the time, was the biggest goddamn Hulk Hogan mark in all of wrestling
>2) Hogan had complete creative control written into his contract and basically didn't want to job to ANYBODY, let alone Sting
>3) Vince "Ole Shit-Stain" Russo

That finish isnt going to work for me brother

It starts with an H and ends with ollywood Hulk Hogan.

>1997 WCW
>Vince Russo
18+ kid

>you make that count nice and slow brother

The 83 weeks about this is why Eric should be banned from wrestling.

Apparently, Sting didn't tan enough for Bischoff.
What this means is that Hogan said, "Brother, that finish don't work for me," and he's trying to cover for his buddy. The funniest part is that the Luger/Hogan match was perfect and went exactly like how this one should have, but Bischoff is a retard.

Sting was a drugged out mess, but that doesn't matter, they NEEDED to pull this off cleanly. It really was one of the easiest things to book. Sting should have beaten Hogan in like 8 minutes. Hogan makes a comeback and Sting just fucking destroys him, then they can go into the destruction and splitting of the nWo angle

>Sting a drugged out mess

Please cite references as everything I have ever heard or read about Sting is that he's a straight edge Christ mark.

He's a born-again christian like Shion Maikols. Clear now?

No. I was under the impression that he had always been a hardcore Jesus freak.

Doesn't help that Hogan was in the middle of contract negations for re-signing in 1998.

Unfortunately, Bischoff invested in Hogan while the WWF was investing in Austin, not realizing that they needed a good babyface counter at a time when Sting was over as fuck.

Would it have lasted? Probably not, but people in corporate culture don't have the capacity to see more than 2 feet in front of them.

In Bischoff's mind, it was all Hogan and that was it.

That was the one chance to put the WWF out of business. A culmination of 2 years. And they fucking pissed it down the drain.

Just from a management point of view, would you pin your hopes on an employee who has severe substance abuse issues?

There was this really stupid tna movie he starred in i think. It was a biopic and it had scenes where he’s drinkin booze and poppin pillies

wwe (rightfully) said fuck that on kurt angle and tna took the risk. paid off pretty nicely for them too.

Too much build up. No match could ever live up to the hype.

Creative doesn’t work for me brother

They could have gotten the belt off him in a month.

He became religious after his divorce, drugs and philandering around 1998

Mess up what? It went about as good as it should've. Stink didn't deserve that win.

The fans did, brother.

it would make no sense for a loner who spends all day in the dark rafters to be tan

now this is Reddit posting. go back and gain knowledge

wcw didn't see money in a mime that wears mechanic's gloves

Honestly, it was mostly Sting's fault. He hadn't trained for shit the entire storyline because of injuries and drug abuse and when it came down to showtime he didn't give a shit what the ending was.

No. He had major drug problems during this era.

Not to mention WCW was a clusterfuck and everyone got told different endings. Sting himself admitted he was in a bad place at this time and could barely go at all but everyone just takes Meltzer's anti-Hogan slant on this.

Sting has admitted in interviews that he had no objections to the ending.

Sting didn’t properly prep. Not WCW’s fault

There is literally no wrestler anyone can mention who has no faults. As far as I'm concerned, Sting is in the top 10 of all time. He's absolutely my favorite.
