Christian only (and he admits as much) got the run due to Edge retiring. That, and Vince wanted him and Randy to carry SmackDown all summer. Christian was originally supposed to retain but Mark Henry was blowing up, so Vince changed it so Mark would take the belt from Orton. Christian was always better in a tag team and better than Edge, but he just never had the machine behind him.
