I tried to watch an AEW match last week but I was distracted by the mutants filling their audience and how much they were like all the memes about soft placid onionsboy redditors who are overweight and bald with shitty beards and print t shirts and general super betas and it was just too fucking uncanny, I couldn't look away, I thought "but I'm trying to watch this too, am I one of those people?" I was so disturbed by it I literally turned the match off halfway through because it was just a shitty stunt show anyway so I immediately got the jist of what the promotion was all about and regretted even giving it a chance.

Cornette and I almost always agree with him about everything but times change, men and women have both changed, and the audience changed. Women in their 30s and 40s still used to care about pro wrestling into the 2000s (some of those indy shows were single mom milf city bros) but where women are concerned I don't think the 30 year old and under crowd would be caught dead at a pro wrestling show now. That's never coming back. Getting families involved where you're going to see a mom and dad and their kid at the show is a cool idea and the older I get the more I get a kick out of seeing some little kid in the crowd of a WWE show who doesn't even realise he's having a great bonding moment with his dad that they'll both always remember while his dad cheers and boos all the guys his kid does. I think that's probably the way to go for US promotions who are trying to go big, because the onions market is clearly locked down and maybe bigger than expected, but those guys will probably show up anyway as long as the wrestling is good. It seems like nobody really knows how to capture that family audience in the US because everyone is trying too hard to appeal to kids which turns off your angry teen Kyles or trying too hard to appeal to your angry teen Kyles so moms don't want their impressionable kids watching.

I agree somewhat. I think they will do well financially because AEW went for the Funko Pop/Gamestop crowd who, admittedly, do spend a lot of money on merchandise. However I don’t see the potential for growth here. They’re going for the modern wrestling nerd, which requires a person to already be a wrestling fan to get into it. It doesn’t have mass appeal. Both AEW shows thus far have not been friendly to new fans. Doesn’t do basic story-level shit to draw people in like having distinct faces and heels. So they can draw in modern wrestling fans, but also I don’t think they’ll be bringing in any former wrestling fans with what they’re doing. There’s been a few highlights (Cody Rhodes), but thus far there’s been far more stuff a former wrestling fan is going to write off as cringey bullshit, the same type of shit that drove them away from WWE.

Based in my book. The guy would draw money to his way if he opened up a wrestling school just to prep guys with their promos. Corny is one of the few who can stand in toe to toe with Heyman on promos. Too bad he hates most of the wrestlers there are so it will never happen but i can still hope and dream about it.
