I believe Hase was ousted from New Japan over the incident where the young lion died. He was the one who took the burden of breaking the news to the parents because he promised them their kid was safe, and resigned afterwards.

With all due respect, AJPW is full of 'good workers,' his work isn't the only thing that makes him great. He connects with the audience, is charismatic and expressive in the ring, and switches efforltessly between heel and face depending on what the crowd is giving him. He's also a very good promo, watch the one after he beat Marufuji. 'Good worker' is some shit Dave says as a blanket statement to approve of wrestlers he likes watching.
