Still better than fale, evil, zsj, etc
Nope. He’s a one trick pony who can’t do his one trick anymore.
imagine having a bad match with Ibushi
It wasn't bad.
I knew he was full of shit when he blamed WWE despite wrestling only on NXT and 205 Live, the only two products where wrestlers are actually allowed to wrestle good matches consistently.
what is his trick?
He got jannettied by Phil.
Phil's gts is unironically superior
Ospreay will bring something out of him that Ibushi couldn't.
it was incredibly sad to see ibushi do his best to bump like a motherfucker for kenta's shitty strikes and lazy kicks, can't see how anyone could have enjoyed that
kick
>his gimmick is that he kicks people
wow so this is the power of pro wrestling noah
it wasnt horrible but it certainly wasnt anything special
It was bad though, I don't even know what you would call bad if you think that wasn't bad.
It's more a case of him being so influential that everyone stole all of his signature moves so people who didn't watch him first will think he's doing generic shit that everyone else does.
He wasn't that influential and there's really no excuse for botching his own move like that.
this. Dude pretty much influenced the modern style from his mid 00 run.
Stiffing people. Now he's a broken down wreck who has lost all his intensity and power
Not the guy you were replying to, but Kenta was super influential to the scene 15 years ago. The match with Ibushi sucked, but I’m hoping he gets things back right. You’re a millennial PG fag if you’ve never seen his prime run.
Structurally speaking, the match wasn't a big departure from what KENTA was doing in the heavyweight division in NOAH before he left for WWE. His execution looks a bit rougher around the edge, but I actually think that compliments his character well. He's shaking off the cobwebs so to speak after a disappointing 5 years.
based ibushi trying to get the washed up fake tough guy over
Nah, I've seen him in his prime and liked him a lot but he wasn't that influential.
>the match wasn't a big departure from what KENTA was doing in the heavyweight division in NOAH before he left for WWE
And it sucked then too. Seems like he mistook the no compete clause as a no gym clause or something because he showed up with bitch tits, motherfucker can barely even lift his legs to kick people.
It wasn't bad, it was just passable. The problem is if Kota was told "go out there and make our newest acquisition look good" and "passable" is all you get, that does not bode well for the other guy.
this
>some bingo hall manlet nobody in the big leagues gives a shit about
hard cringe right there
please don't say the n word
This. Nowadays if a match isn't considered 5 stars it's automatically "Bad."
This in particular feels like a big disconnect since the crowd were massively into the match and massively into KENTA. It wasn't 5 stars from an athletic standpoint but holding that against a guy who's been sat on the bench in WWE for five years is stupid. If he still has bitch tits in a year then we'll talk.
>muh f-five stars
Bitch this was barely a 3 star match and the crowd was small and full of drones that were trying to get themselves over with pathetic chants. If you're truly trying to imply this match was some 4.5 star match then I wonder what you rate prime Kenta matches, 8 stars? Stop defending this lazy shitter, it only makes you look stupid.
>Phil's gts is unironically superior
Now you've gone too far.
The GTS against Ibushi wasn't good, but he still did the best one in the business compared to dudes like Phil or Riddle.
The match was perfectly okay, I just think they decided to give KENTA too much offense to try and make him look good. So I never felt like Ibushi got going the entire match and it never really took off as a contest.
And DBD is just about the only top guy from the mid-00s still going strong. Complaining that KENTA isn't as good as he used to be is like complaining that AJ Styles isn't doing X-Division style matches anymore. It's nearly 15 years later, of course they're not.
Marufuji can still go tho
Agree. Ibushi had little presence in the match.
Sugiura only got better with age, his 2018 was incredible, Marufuji has changed up his style and is still incredible. These are two of his fellow NOAH classmen.
Tanahashi is still very good and had an amazing 2018 with his redemption story.
KENT is just a stubborn and lazy shitter, he doesn't want to adapt to old age and injuries but still wants to win the most fake fighting matches.
That's because Phil and Riddle is doing a safer GTS, KENTA broke Wilder's Jaw and broke Kendrick's face before WWE told him not to use the GTS anymore.
Yeah but Riddle's Bro 2 Sleep or whatever actually looks like shit.
Good thing he's not in the WWE anymore then.
Who's DBD?
It's way too early to say, but I think people will look more fondly over Marufuji's G1 run than Kenta's.
If only because it was fun to see everyone's chest before and after Marufuji had his match with them
I CHOPPA YOU
Well no shit, Marufuji is still great. Kenta hasn't been good in 7 years.
that's all you need baybey
I'm not you fucking retard can you read? I wasn't saying it was 5 stars I said if a match isn't then people automatically call it bad in the era we're in. Case and point your post. "It was barely 3 stars." Yeah, THAT'S AVERAGE. 2 1/2 is considered an AVERAGE match on that scale. Not BAD. I'm not saying it was great by any means but you morherfucking idiots need to go watch some 95' WWF or WCW 2000 or Early 2000's NJPW if you want to see what BAD looks like.
Disagree. Everything Riddle does looks super athletic and technical, and he has the physical capacity to pull off basically any move. He is the Super Buu of pro-wrestling.
pretty sure Phil injured more than one guy with the gts
Marufuji has a more exciting style than KENTA does. KENTA is a like fighting game character whose main strategy is zoning with strikes and chipping his opponent to death.
I like Riddle. I liked his work on evolve, I liked his tag team with Cobb
I just think his G2S is bad. His "tombstone" is bad too
youtube.com
The german saved this sequence
nice try, Ryback
I imagine he means Daniel Bryan "Danielson"?
KENTA does more highflyng than Marufuji nowadays. Marufuji barely goes to the top rope 2 times a year for the spanish fly. But Marufuji was always a more versatile and intelligent wrestler, nowadays he doe more ground work and submissions and his strikes are stiffer than KENTA's.
He means the Da Big Dog Roman Reigns
It was average though, you retard.
baseado
looks fine imo
>kicking out of a gts on a fucking nxt opener
Imagine how based Cesaro would've been in a G1 setting lads.
KENTA has to become great again and prove everyone wrong. He was supposed to be the guy who brought all the lapsed NJPW fans back.
this doesnt make any sense he was never a njpw guy
I don't see how KENTA can survive a G1 run considering his body has been broken down by his WWE run unless he takes little to no bumps
I don't blame KENTA being slow on his first real match back. Some people take a while to get back into gear.
But he needs to find that gear if he wants to prove everyone he still got it
Would he tho? Been so long since I last watched him wrestle that I forgot what I liked so much about him
I'm not talking about the lapsed Japanese fans, I'm talking about the lapsed fans on the internet who lost interest in NJPW and watch like AJPW and NOAH and other J-indies now.
He's slow because he's fat and that's his own fault for sitting on his ass for 3 months doing nothing except eating. He's fatter than he was before getting released.
He lost it a long time ago. He's a hustler now, he signed with WWE so they would pay to have his nagging injuries surgically repaired so he can retire relatively pain-free, he's back in Japan for one last run then he'll open up a training promotion similar to Michinoku Pro or something.along thise lines
You can watch all three. That's less time wasted watching wrestling/month than if you only watched wwe.
I never said it was good. I said it wasn't bad and people label anything not 5 stars as bad nowadays. I can't tell if you're missing the point and not reading that original statement right, or if you're just fucking with me at this point so color me worked anyways.
He never had it. Shoot kicking people does not a gimmick make
Who cares about the genefreak contranians of Puro Twitter?
People are really overrating modern Marufuji, presumably to knock KENTA. Marufuji isn't bad but he's not great or anything. He's not a based vet like Nagata or even Kojima.
Let's face it, KENTAfuji was both wrestlers' peak.
So you're just shitposting just to shitpost? It wasn't a good match, maybe some are overstating just how bad it was but who cares, this happens all the time shortly after a match and this one deserves it for the stupid botches. Why are you so desperate to make sure everybody agrees it wasn't the worst thing ever? Why put so much effort into defending a match that you agree wasn't good? Everyone kept hyping him up oh you'll see he's still got it now that he's free and now you(that particular group) are desperate to cover your asses after he made you look stupid with that lazy ass performance.
You probably only watch New Japan. Marufuji got a moty candidate out of old man Jun Akiyama last year.
It was doo doo famalama. That nigga needs ben gay and orthopedics shoes.
This. Literally 4-star match and it was his first big match in ages.
fucking cringe, you faggots need to have some sex and get a clue
I'm not really defending him personally, but more or less the recent trend/idea that matches are either perfect or completely shit with no in between. Maybe part of it is that I ignored the hype about him entering the G1 so I wasn't as disappointed as everyone else. I mean shit I'd be mad too if someone wouldn't shut up about how great something was only for it not to be great so I see what you're saying.
The live crowd loved his performance.
I know night 1 always has upsets and KENTA needed to start strong, but he shouldn't have been put with Ibushi and gone over.
He should have gone against ZSJ, whose whole shtick is getting beaten up by heavy hitters.
Why the fuck do you care that ibushi lost?
even if he's winning the whole thing he's still lost at least 2 matches
Yeah I think he would.
Big power moves to pop the japanese crowds, fun spots, some great heel work if necessary.
getting injured
*still gonna lose
Hey, if you're implying it wasn't Jun Akiyama that got a MOTY match out of Marufuji you need to fuck off.
Akiyama had the best matches of 2018 Champion's Carnival
Based Csonka with the sensible thoughts and hopeful star ratings
y'all niggas pretending FAT KENTA is good, you gonna sit there tell me Cesaro wouldn't be BASED as fuck in the G1?
Probably has something to do with not jobbing one your biggest draws and best performers to some part-time outsider?
That's sorta the point. You see him beat the fuck out of one of the top guys to show he's on that level (tho he's not)
It takes two to make MOTY candidate retards. I will say that Uncle Jun hasn't been top tier for years and I say that as the biggest Akiyama fan but he turned back the clock for that match, Marufuji also had amazing matches against Kento though.
lmao at that idiot mentioning Kojima
What. Watch 2018 CC
Akiyama had consistently great matches there. Dude only "retired" because he wants to because he could easily be best wrestler in that company.
Kojima's match against Shingo at Dominion was one of the best matches on the card.
They were good matches but the other block was much better. Uncle Jun is still awesome but he's not capable of incredible matches anymore and hat's fine because he's old and battered.
Kojima has never had a MOTY candidate in his life.
>what is Tenryu vs Kojima
fucking burgerzoomer
Name them.
Only zoomers rate Kojima lmao
Jokes on all of you, Ching-Ching wrestling is GAYYYYY
no you
Literally every guy since early ROH has ripped off KENTA. The entire main event style in the current US scene borrows mostly from KENTA.
Who gives a shit? KENTA took his shit from a bunch of dudes before him and so on and so forth. Just because you do moves doesnt mean you make them look the best they can be. The match was boring as fuck as all his matches are because all he wants to do is shoot kick people. He doesnt mix much of anything into it. And when he does we get faggot noodle armed lariats from the top rope. The GTS is such a fucking shit tier finisher it's not even funny. MAYBE a bigger dude could make it look lethal. But when you have an out of shape dude with shoulder surgery hoisting up someone bigger than him and knee striking his fucking SHOULDER you wonder why KENTA doesnt just kick someone in the balls and call it a finisher. That's what his matches are like. A kick to the dick. A distant pain that lats long after you receive it.
Damn NOAH SEETHING
Wrestling's fake bud, easyyyyy there.
Im not even a NOAH fan. The guy is just overrated shit.
>He invented the corner drop kick
What? It's a fucking drop kick that just so happens to go into the corner. You'd think the fucker invented using you legs as offense period.
>he invented the GTS
One of the most complicated finishers to set up and worst looking to boot.
his best matches were mid 2000's. no way he could return to form like that.
GTS is a pretty simple finisher to set up desu
If you weigh more than your opponent and have to good arms and shoulders yes maybe
Now that's right here is the rare unironic SEETH
>im not a NOAH fan
then you have never seen KENTA
He's shit. It's 2019, not 2000. This is like if the Iron Sheik came back to the ring and people were saying "Well he looked pretty good. He didnt have a stroke or break in half." Fuck this kick happy jap
I just did and he's shit. I dont feel like time travellling or watching some weebos youtube compilation of shoot kicks set to a Final Fantasy soundtrack
Even if you're a manlet it's still not a difficult finisher to setup. you just put them in a fireman carry and drop them standing later
Maybe it doesn't look good, but it's certainly not a wacky finisher or anything. It's a pretty simple one is all i'm saying
You're missing out bro
youtube.com
Those are based
>Even if you're a manlet it's still not a difficult finisher to setup
Then explain to me how you end up botching it and striking a shoulder then. inb4 you blame Kota.
It's 2019. Are we somehow transporting this fucker from 2000?
Only time wrestlins good is when it's in short videos desu
NOAHS and NJPW matches are too long
Kota's sell was pretty terrible ngl.
Admitedly I only consume my wrestling nowadays through highlight videos
Is all I need.
imagine having such a severe learning disability that you can't even pay attention to a whole wrestling match
wrong.
Its just boring.
I've seen nearly every move and every story. I'm not impressed anymore
Last good match I remember was young bucks vs Golden lovers, Daniel Bryan vs Brock
Straight pro wrestling likeNOAH and NJPW is boring

Maybe, I dunno. Kenta generally hits you in the upper chest, so the chest is a reasonable target. It's all about selling anyway.

No.
That sell was the worst part of that move. You can't even blame KENTA on that. You just know Ibushi came to the ring with dreaming to do that terrible oversell, because that's just Ibushi's nature.
Ibushi could've saved the move by dropped his arms and angling his head at KENTA's knee.
>That sell was the worst part of that move.
Not the hitting of the shoulder right fag rag?
Or or...Kenta could have not botched it by hitting it properly since it's his signature move he invented and what not. Fucking unreal. Kota could have saved the move by anticipating Kenta was going to botch. Good advice.
seethe
No because there is no way that sell would've been good in any way the knee hit
It was always going to look comical and goofy as fuck
Diamond Ballas Dage
>It was always going to look comical and goofy as fuck
Not unlike a finisher that hits someone in the shoulder. it got the sell it deserved.
>jobbing
>part-time

Kenta vs Ibushi was based
Have sex with a woman and not your hand
>that glance he gives his hand after chopping Gedo(?)'s soul out of his body

>newfags complaining about the GTS
Original GTS was a knee to the body before he started doing it to the head. That finish is probably older than some of you.
It's great to see him back. He very rusty, WWE has poisoned him pretty badly with the way he does sympathy mechanics and comeback spots. Remember that this guy basically hasn't wrestled a real match in 5 years and just got done with a 5 year brainwashing program of how to wrestle like John Cena. But I am certain that this tournament goes on he'll start to unlearn some of that and start to replace those parts of his style with some old stuff he stopped using and some modern stuff to keep up to date with how NJPWs style has changed. He's going to become a maximum effort worker again by the end of this tournament and it's gonna be fucking based bros.
If you're crying about stiff kicks stop being such a mark and please fucking go back hahahaha
KENTA's going over braining everyone bros let's fuckin smash some flippy faggots in the face
>WWE has poisoned him pretty badly with the way he does sympathy mechanics and comeback spots. Remember that this guy basically hasn't wrestled a real match in 5 years and just got done with a 5 year brainwashing program of how to wrestle like John Cena
You sound like the biggest fucking virgin LMAO
When you're a manlet who's main gimmick is is people wondering if he can put on a good match in NJPW today, anything less than an excellent match is bad. People would be amazed if Fale had that match though
seethe
No wonder wwe released him, without a whimper.
ya fume?
Phil broke the noses of Mysterio, Snitsky and Regal
Yeah him doing the standard WWE three-clotheslines-in-a-row shit was pretty sad to watch. Also sad were his tits and weird ass armpit skin, but everything else was good enough.
He's got me invested in his story of wanting to see if he can still do it over the course of this tournament.
For those of you too young to remember how popular and influential KENTA was, Ishii coming out to watch him is a pretty good indicator of the level of prestige he still has even after rotting away in WWE.
Did he ever really have it? No.
Fucking manlet chinks have only one place in life. Sitting in the corner crying as I fuck their slant eyed girl.
>confusing Ishii and Shibata
Edgy AF. Too bad KENTA was arguably the best junior in the world at his peak and you're some cum rag complaining on a Balinese basket weaving forum.
Holy shit look at this neckbeard
Impressed.
>tfw all this motherfucking (You)s OP must be having by same fagging the thread with his cringe
Nigga KENTA vs Ibushi was a solid 4.25 star match. I was at the edge of my seat watching the match.
KENTA is low key the greatest heel of all time judging by this thread
holy cope
>4.25
>solid
Only in wrestling smarks rate a mediocre 6 out of 10 match a 8.5 great rating because their brains have been fried
He cant even do his move anymore.
>tfw tanas gonna put this shitter over soon to build up kentas credibility because tana is a company guy
>Muh stiff shit is bad!
Am i being worked? Stiff kicks and elbows and punches and slaps is the best thing about japanese wrestling.
I'm glad KENTA brought his WWE style to Who Japan to work these moves marks into a seethe because it's not breathaking. That is him adapting, contrary to what the smarks ITT sayswho says he hasn't. BASED Respect Me Kick man making these obese lards froth
I don't know I think his match was awesome. A lot of kicks and big impact moves. I think it is a ****1/2, hell I'd see people go the full ***** it wouldn't surprise me. We had the true KENTA here, not the WWE slave. If you didn't see the difference, you're blind or just not a true wrestling fan.
It felt like it never got out of first gear, which is not a good sign when we're talking about an Ibushi match.
>I'm glad KENTA brought his WWE style
Keep in mind bros he's also working in front of an American audience, so he might've done more of a WWE style on purpose thinking it would connect with the audience better. It will be interesting to see if it changes at all in his next match in front of a Japanese audience.
Orion Nebula is unironically a good finisher name
Seeth harder
He looked like shit. WWE ''''performance center'''' for you.
Do you think he banged peyton or billie kay in nxt? That’d be one decent thing to have come out of his time there at least.
True, but it could be an insta classic at the moment. Also is not the first time they met
Imagine burying one of the company's top stars because this out of shape shitter can't even lift his legs to kick anymore. He had to sell like crazy, getting kicked in the back of the neck and hitting the guard rail face first and hurting his leg on the dive because fatboy couldn't even time his kick properly.
Yeah he was. Fag.

COPE. Can't wait for your excuse when he shits the bed again and again
It was the worst G1 match. For fucks sake, EVIL vs. Bad Luck Fale and Lance Archer vs. Will Ospreay were mies ahead of KENTA's debut.
sad.
This
How did he not have a good match with Kota fucking Ibushi?
"WWE style". Spotted the drones who've never watched a heavyweight KENTA match.
this. his big flabby mantits and gut was swinging all over the place
Thank you. EVIL vs. Bad Diet Fale was actually a surprisingly good match. I really liked it. I think Kenta will improve though, he hasn't had a match like that in half a decade, just needs time and better shape.
>KENTA
>heavyweight
Spotted the based retard
I'll let you in on a little secret, this was exactly the type of matches he had in NXT and 205.
Oh ok, then he's just old and fat. Thanks for the info bro.
>Royal Rumble preshow: multi-man for the cruiserweight strap
>don't pay attention to 205live but feel confident that Hideo is getting his rub in a good match
>dude makes his entrance in the tightest looking tights holding his flab and rolls, zero care in his face, terrible showing
Lost any respect for the guy
He was by far the worst guy in that match too.
Nothing kills your career like ballooning up and putting zero effort. Respect to guys like EC3 and Mike Bennett in a shit situation but they're still trying to prove something
I can smell you from here
COPE
take a shower, incel.
> shitting on EVIL
He just needs to get on the gas and lose some weight. How hard/easy is it to go on TRT in Japan?
I'm not sure which is worse, the people pretending that Marufuji didn't basically make KENTA's entire career, or the people pretending that Ibushi can actually work a good match when he doesn't have someone carrying him. That was one of the worst possible matches they could've booked as KENTA's debut, let alone one where he hasn't wrestled in months.
>ibushi isnt a top tier worker
what planet on you living on
Why WWE didn't pair him with Finn, they had great chemistry.
> I was at the edge of my seat watching the match.
You were on the edge of your seat watching a guy get kicked? Wtf do you do when Ospreay wrestles? Hurl yourself into a wall?
Because Kenta was made of glass and loose string
he's fat
Ibushi is fucking great but in terms of actually structuring a match he's seriously spot monkey tier. He needs someone with him who can handle actually structuring the match in order to properly shine.
More physically impressive wrestling is not necessarily more thrilling. A Shingo Takagi lariat gets me more hyped than the majority of Ospreay's moves.
I aint seen any of this fag before NXT but all I've seen has been pretty boring.
Maybe he innovated a lot of shit, but it's like when you watch an old movie that newer movies have copied from and it just seem kinda cliched and boring.
It might have been fresh at the time but now it just shit.
>KENTA did shitty three feed clothesline comeback when NOAH were trying to make him a heavyweight
Found the zoomer faggot who never watched NOAH
Probably triggering for a lot of Elite era fans but I would agree with that, unless he is doing a full bati / quasi shoot style match, this has always been true. His potential is huge given his skillset and athleticism but his psychology was never great, which didn't matter when it was just two jrs flipping around kicking each other, but it becomes obvious again in situations like this.
