Two things: Cody Rhodes isn’t his actual birth name because Rhodes isn’t even his actual family name anyway, it’s runnels. Second, he was always fully able to go by Cody Rhodes, he just wanted to wrestle as Cody for a while as not to coast on by using the Rhodes name
