>There was about 4800 in the building and the paid was just probably right around 4k... So, you know, it's what it is. I... I mean, it's funny because, it didn't look good in a building that large, like if they would have booked that Hudson Center where NXT ran, I mean, it still wouldn't have been close to full, but it would have looked a lot better. But, you know, they felt... Well, obviously, I know what they were expecting and it didn't come close to what they were expecting. I think they felt G1 would mean more in the United States
What a shame. At least the small crowd that was there was hot.

tbf, that empty section is at the side of the entrance stage.

>Well, obviously, I know what they were expecting

what were they expecting oh wise one

Do you not understand implied context from the rest of the quote? They were expecting to nearly sell out.

>I think they felt G1 would mean more in the United States
NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE FUCK A G1 IS
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
SMARK DELUSION HAS SPREAD TO LITERAL MULTIMILLION DOLLAR COMPANIES FUCKING SAD!

AEW shill Dave Meltzer

That's a shame. G1 is miles ahead of every other wrestling show, in my opinion, including NJPW's own stuff. It's the wrestling-related thing I look forward to the most every year.

Yeah it was an undersized but genuinely enthusiastic crowd. Somewhat similar to the crowd they got when they ran SF in 2017. Hmm maybe people who go to wrestling shows like watching wrestling instead of B-grade talkshow segments?

I'm a NJPW drone but that was all on then. No one wants to travel to Texas in July. They should've done Chicago or NYC.

The ticket prices were outrageous too. When I went NJPW in Cali it was $100 for the cheapest seats in the arena.

Oh please, Meltzer sucked the cock of this show all the way through. He's just stating facts.

The show was good though

>muh empty seats

They got to use a really big arena for free so i think they could not care less

He's said they were expecting like 10k.

The card wasn't that great. Kenta shat the bed and Tana vs Okada wasn't as good as their other matches.

>The show was good though
No shit, Meltzer said so as well
>They got to use a really big arena for free so i think they could not care less
They expected more than that and obviously would rather not have a quarter empty arena

It was funny listening to the guy across from me on the train try to explain to the black lady sitting next to him what New Japan and G1 were

Come to Panda Express, free NJPW ticket in every fortune cookie!

What the fuck was New Japan thinking running a show in an arena within a flyover state like Texas? I know they probably got a deal from Marc Cuban, but still. Just keep doing shows in California or New York City for now. Chicago should be their only flyover state show.

In better news, also from Meltzer:
>I think they'll do real well in those cities, I actually think... I don't know if Lowell will sell out, but, hmm, it depends on what talent they'll have, I think a lot of people will hesitate to buy tickets because they don't know the talent, and unfortunately with New Japan they'll announce it late, but I do think that the Philadelphia and New York shows will sell out pretty quickly, even without talent announcements

Go back to China.

I was at SF, the crowd was mostly hot for BC and Okada/Naito/Tanahashi. That they went crazy for Juice/Jay was a big surprise and that ended up being match of the night. By comparison it seemed like the Dallas crowd was hot for everything, even Goto (not meant as a knock on the guy, he's been away training).

>flyover state
Dallas has an international airport that made it easier for the new japan people to come in. AXS is owned by Cuban and he owns the arena they used too.

>I think they felt G1 would mean more in the United States
Why the fuck would anyone think this?

Dave can't bury NJPW all the way, because AEW still dreaming about a collaboration agreement

Because the G1 is the consistently the best wrestling New Japan or any other promotion puts out each year.

Dave literally said that this was the best commentated show he's seen all year. He basically buried Jim Ross and the AEW crew hard. Enough of this "AEW shill" nonsense.

You didn't answer my question.

You missed out loads of ums and y'knows.

>he's no longer an AEW shill because he praised another companies announce team

you guys are bad at this

Yeah, I did. If we lived in a fairer world, more people would care because G1 is the best stretch of wrestling of every year.

He also buried AEW's Fyter Fest preshow. Said thank god it was over.

Why would anyone in the US care about guys they've never heard of having the best fake fights?

no he didnt
he said
That God that preshow is over.

If we lived in a fairer world, they'd know who they were and their deal too!

Nope. This is the internet. We read word-for-word literal transcriptions of the Observer podcasts then diagnose Dave with autism for using intonation and linguistic filler to communicate when speaking off-the-cuff.

Then why doesnt it draw big league numbers?

For the same reason the best movies don't get the best box office.

>muh john
rent free

You know it's less than that.

>spends the entire first half talking about gay MMA shit

I guess they won't be going back to Dallas then. I know people were saying it was stupid to go there in the first place and that the timing was bad because of Liberty Weekend(?), but I know dick about America so that could be coping for all I know. At least the show was amazing.

The empty crowd looked bad on TV. They should have used a smaller venue.

It was pretty mediocre.

>timing was bad because of Liberty Weekend(?), but I know dick about America
4th of July weekend. Legit never heard it called Liberty Weekend before.

This isn't a knock on NJPW but unless Stone Cold, the Von Erichs or Taker is showing up we don't care. The event wasn't even advertised anywhere not on the radio,tv,billboards etc. Also Dallas is having an issue with crime & homeless niggas lately so wealthy suburbanites wouldn't want to travel to downtown to see the event. Even Eddie was drawing dimes in Dallas (he only drew in cities with Mexicans). I guess push Rush & Naito, clean up downtown and advertise it next time

No, he said that God it was over

m8 it's a 19000 seat arena

We literally cheered and booed for almost everything even yoshi hashi.

If they actually advertised, lowered the price, had more luchadors with los. It would have sold more than double what it did tonight. Dallas is a notable top city economic wise, but wrestling it's still the south + latin.

Do you guys want to get robbed?

Come back to Nashville

New Japan got the building for free, Mark Cuban is one of the key operators. AXS TV is making their money back off the New Japan product through exclusive live television and the weekly tv shows in return.

in other words; New Japan didn't have anything to lose, nor does the attendance really matter considering it wasn't them booking the building for a set amount, unlike WWE who's losing money in their domestic territory every year with record low attendance numbers.

Because people would rather watch WWE shit every week in order to complain about it than actually watch good wrestling and feel satisfied.

To be fair somepeople are so autistic that it has to be live

They still expected more and this is still a bit embarrassing
