Shawn had nuclear heat when he kept that European Title by beating Davey Boy

lel nowadays you'd immidiately get booted out of the arena for doing that

I chunked my actual shit at icp at wcw show.

Good. It is assault.

>Currently making my way through the attitude era on the network in order
>Started in early 97 and am now at the start of September 1997

It's really starting to get fucking good but I haven't got to Shawn vs Davey Boy yet. Last Raw I watched was when Stone Cold gave a stunner to Commissioner Slaughter for the first time and the crowd went apeshit. Just listened to Retro Raw with Bryan & Vinny for that episode and they hinted that shit was going to go down during Bulldog vs Shawn but I have no idea what happens. I assume Shawn politicked his way into beating Davey in his hometown?

I literally cannot wait to watch the rest of the Attitude Era. I missed the first half of the attitude era when I was a kid cause I live in the UK and my parents didn't have Sky tv until April 1999. I've only seen clips and had a few of the PPVS on VHS. Admittedly, a lot of the undercard is garbage but the upper card is so good during this time period. It's fun to watch it along with Bryan & Vinny.

I'm doing the same but i'm on May 2000,you are reaching 1997 peak and it all becomes better after that.

LOL.

Have they said when they're going to stop doing the retro show or are they just gonna keep going into the ruthless aggression era?

I'm also going through Nitro in order though at a much slower pace but as far as I'm aware, the first proper retro episode for Nitro doesn't start until October or November 1996? I started at the start of the NWO which was like June 1996 and I'm currently at the end of August but I couldn't find any retro episodes from that time period, unless I'm looking for the wrong thing? It sucks cause I would have liked to hear their thoughts on the start of the NWO.

You should have started in late 96. October 96, when Bret Hart came back to build up Stone Cold and save us from Shawn Micahels's reign of bordeom. That's when the seeds were planted for the Attitude Era. That's when shit started to get kino
>Bret feuding with Austin
>Bret feuding with Shawn (mixing story with real life)
>Bret feuding with Sid
>Shawn feuding with Sid
>Bret feuding with Vince (again mixing story with real life)

And none of this would have happened if Bret didn't return to WWF and just went to WCW 1 year earlier than he did.
Everyone rightfully points at the formation of the NWO as when rasslan got good again, the genesis of the second boom period, but that happened in July 96 - Bret came back to WWF and and brought kino with hima mere 3 months later - almost as a riposte to Hogan.

Have you thanked Bret Hart, savior of the WWF, today yet?

BTW 1996 babyface Shawn was fucking terrible...but he was based as fuck 97-98. Him, as a former WWF Champion, walking around with the European Championship belt was fucking kino. It's his best look.

Kino

WHO'S YOUR DADDY MONTREAL?

I'll probably go back to that period but I'm too impatient and wanted to get to the core of the attitude era. If I'd already watched it at the time I probably would have started earlier but I've missed so much that I wanted to get to the main part of the attitude era quicker. I don't remember much of 96 but Bret is fucking excellent in 1997. He's so good at working the crowd as a heel.

This era of Shawn will never be surpassed by anyone in terms of basedness

I can only imagine how fat and white you are

yes---this era brought us "Black Short Shorts HBK" DLC as well as the "Canadian flag handkerchief" moveset

>Shawn is a fag sign

Attached: 0120 - FL52XPe.jpg (259x253, 20K)

It's one of the all-time great signs.

You would be onions'd out of the arena if you brought a sign like that today

Someone should unironically make a movie or a HBO style miniseries drama based on Shawn and Bret's real-life heat, culminating in the Montreal Screwjob. Shit would be kino. I wonder who would play Shawn, Bret and Vince.

definitely a series
there's way too much to fit into a movie

John Malkovich as Bret, Vince Vaughn as Vince and Owen Wilson as Shawn

another one

I've been slowly making my way through 1997 Raws and there's a "faggot" or "Shawn is gay" chant almost every other week. Sometimes the faggot chant is directed at someone else but usually it's Shawn. It was truly a different time. South Park had just started, everyone was watching Jerry Springer and trash tv and listening to nu-metal. No one gave a solitary shit about political correctness. It was the early days of the internet so there was no social media and no one was getting doxxed and publicly shamed for having the wrong opinion or saying something offensive. I feel so sorry for zoomers who didn't experience that time period.

Bret even called Shawn and Haitch homos that barebacked their way to the top on live TV, career suicide today

youtu.be/86UqgNjQzg0

Yeah I was like 12 but it was a great time to be alive

He probably snorted so much coke backstage he didn't even feel it

>zero fucks given

Coke head Shawn was best Shawn.

You always get a retarded zoomer trying to shit on the 97~2001 period of wrestling, but you can tell from miles away that it's already retards and NPCs, shit was legit great back in the day.

Absolutely based

I always thought it was pain pills that Shawn was on that fucked him up so much. Didn't realize it was coke.

There are people who hate that period of wrestling? I'm always hearing about how great the Attitude Era is and how it should come back.

There's a whole subculture of contrarian smarks who shit on the attitude era because the wrestling and in-ring work wasn't as good as today.

Kek. Is this even on the network?

Based trips of truth.

Every match back then ended in a DQ from a chairshot to the head. Attitude Era was just Jerry Springer type drama. There was no actual wrestling involved.

I miss the European Belt so much bros. It was fucking perfect looking

>Just listened to Retro Raw with Bryan & Vinny
100% pure fucking cringe

>OH I'M NO QUEER
Awfully defensive there, Gaytch...

Why wouldn't it be?

Anyone ever notice how Bryan claims to have lived through that era but he knows almost nothing about it and remembers nothing while shitting on everything?

>1990s
>Enough patriotism that you legitimately seethe when someone desiccates your nation's flag
>Patriotic face angle works because everyone isn't disenfranchised
>Seeing the patriotic face defeat the foreign heel is legitimately cathartic entertainment
>2010s
>Everyone is demoralized and hates their country
>No sense of national identity so foreign heel angle doesn't work
>Patriotic face angle deemed problematic and xenophobic

absolutely based

>There are people who hate that period of wrestling?
Pretty much the entire current wrestling fanbase. Just ignore them.

Name me a better retro raw review podcast and I'll switch to that instead. Bryan and Vinny are hilarious. They really fucking hate the headbangers for some reason. Headbangers were far from the worst of that shitty 1997 tag division.

Listen to the 1997 Lapsed Fan shows. Bryan and Vinny are beyond shit. Wouldn't waste a second of my time on them.

He was like 22 when all that shit went down. I'm 30 and can barely remember anything I did when I was 22.

Every wrestling fan vividly remembers the Monday Night Wars

Is that shopped or does Meltz just shoot have a gremlin face? What the fuck is his problem, he looks like he had smallpox as a kid.

The signs were even based
>>Why wait? Leave now, Bret!
>>Shawn is a fag
>>Shawn is a god

adult acne? idk he's very bumpy

Do you expect someone who dedicates 100 hours per week to WRESTLING to have good hygiene?

KWAB

Zoomers are such pussies. I ever see you in the street I'm gonna punch your faggot face.

MOGGED.

He did it all

Do you just watch the PPVs in order or are you watching all of the TV stuff as well?

>no argument
Fuck off bitch,
You'd do jackshit, bitchtits.

Jokes on you I prefer the basement!

I watched the January 6th episode of 97 raw today it was quite literally the greatest wwe episode i've ever seen. the modern product sickens me

im a nigger

He’s Bi- a lot of things

Raw wasn't even that good yet either.

Not them but I torrented rips of every PPV, RAW and later Smackdown from 1996-2005 and I’m in the process of watching all of it kek

Wouldn't even waste my time with 2003-2005. Maybe up until WM19 at the latest

Nice try larping wh*tey

THIS
Listen to this bro, bro

And it was by far the most based time in wrestling. Your vanilla midgets stand on the shoulders of giants and still cant reach past their ears. In ring work means little to nothing in terms of success

97-01
>peak Austin
>peak Bret
>peak Shawn
>peak Foley
>peak Vince
>peak Triple H
>peak Undertaker
>peak Angle (he was shit after 2002)
>peak Kane
>peak Jim Ross

>There was no actual wrestling involved.
Must be the why the ratings were so high and they made millions of new fans

member when Austin Pillamized Pillmans leg with a chair? That was great shit

I feel like that was a shoot which is why HHH and Michael were laughing cause it geniunely made them laugh

Pretty much were shoots

I'll back you up on this brother and if he dies, he dies.

Zoomers always want to cry and comp I'll win, "Why does wrestling suck so bad nowadays" and I always answer "...look in the mirror."

based boomer wisdom

But lingual isnt one of them

why are zoomers such effemitive queers. I swear half of them have titties

It's a shame that Shawn and Bret careers dropped by 98. 97 was definitely both of their best years, even if that was because of all the real-life animosity between the two. Prick DX leader Shawn Michaels was such an smug asshole and did the "shoot" stuff, without over doing it-- which is how WWE does it today.

As for Bret, he finally found a voice on the mic and was having fantastic matches. Bret managed to remain a face in Canada despite all of that, and that story line carried the summer (usually a dead period)

WAB

>which is how WWE does it today.
You sure?

based sunglasses bro was a michaels mark

Sucks because imagine the matches and fueds they could have had with Austin during his run, wouldnt have had to rely so much on the McMahon story arc.

The McMahon-Austin rivalry is the greatest of all time, so I'd say it worked out

I meant that WWE just over does it and does it as a wink wink to the audience. Shawn did it to piss people(Bret, Cornette) off. He didn't give a fuck.

I figured the big match would be those 3 in a Triple Threat. Austin's run with the belt wasn't that great when you think about it. I like Foley, but it sucked that they didn't just have Cactus Jack face him, instead of this weird Dude Love shit.

What the fuck? Austin's run wasn't that great now? The Over the Edge Dude Love match is an absolute classic.

what a fuckin pro

>Goes over Bulldog in England + that post-match stuff
>Screwjobs Bret in Canada
If plebbit and twitter were around in '97 would have been all-time seethe levels that fall.

No one in wrestling today has this level of swagger.
97 Michaels is GOAT tier.
97 Bret is also GOAT tier, as is 97 Austin.

>watching wrestling for just the wrestling
yikes

Michaels had them seething in '97

Jesus, Miller isn't even that tall. That chico is really a manlet
