When you record a song, instruments and vocals are recorded separately and mixed together to make the final track. Those separate tracks are the masters. It's not such a big deal these days as with audio technology it's not that difficult to break a song back down to it's original constituent parts while retaining something close to it's original quality. Though musical snobs would probably disagree and pretend they could hear a difference in quality. The sorts of people that prefer owning music on vinyl.

You can't break a mixed track back down to it's original... First the masters are the uncut versions, you can't add in cut parts through technology, second, various effects are put onto all of the tracks several times and the tracks are combined and EQ'd several times over. You can never get anything close to the original without the masters.

Audio changes depending on whatever medium you put it on, a vinyl doesn't store or play music the same as a digital file, or tape, or a cd. FLAC and Vinyl have a different sound.
