That "racism" of japanese people is less of the "grrr white piggu get out"- in you face violent kind, and most often more of the "aww geez we would like to accommodate you, but we no speaku english, so maybe try that other place instead..." -variety and the like. Sure, some may use this as a convenient shield to mask their actual racism, but for the most part many do honestly feel they're being considerative with that. Sucks for the westerners being rejected, but even learning just a little bit of japanese goes a long way in opening up more access and avoiding such trouble.
