I love both though. Jay/Ospreay was Ospreays best match all year even until now. Jay is the perfect base for a guy like Ospreay because hes extremely grounded and doesnt do any hokey or contrived shit. I truly think that if you dont think Jay is very good already you just dont get it.
Jay White takes the modern traditional NJPW style and turns it on its head to great effect. Look at the most recent Goto match.
In the match he will do literally anything to get out of harms way. When Goto was setting up a lariat and Jay just stumbled to the corner it really started to click how well it works in contrast to every other worker. Instead of the move hitting or just ducking it Jay doesnt even give the crowd the satisfaction of a quick, sudden dodge. When Goto tried to pull him to the center of the ring so he could hit a power move and Jay held the rope, forcing Goto to try a strike that Jay counters into his outside Saito suplex. And the one time in the match that Jay actually stood and traded with Goto, he didnt hold on for long and was dropped. Hes just a tremendous, clever worker. His moveset is logical, non-contrived and impactful and is getting more and more over with the crowd.

Jay doesn't need a billion flashy moves to have a good match and has a straightforward heel gimmick to the point where you like him ironically or not. Ospreay on the other hand, whilst having the ability just comes off as a tryhard, he needs to stop with the yelling when he sells and work on making his "fighting spirtu" demeanour convincing because I can't take him seriously.

I like both. Yea Forums doesn't want NJPW(as you can tell by the 10 people that post on their threads), they watch some highlights from 4 years ago when Osprey screamed like a women giving birth when he was getting hit. That Osprey is done and gone. For the past two years, this guy has gone from a great flip guy to one of if not the best wrestler in the world. I don't care if you find him annoying, facts don't care about your feelings. Almost everyone that faces this guy has their best match. BOSJ was a showcase of that. He's like Okada, he can make a great wrestler look even greater and an average one look great. Seethe all you want, I actually watch NJPW and not just highlights or just to hate on somebody who's obviously great.
That said, no way in hell his match with Bandido was a 5 star match. To me ELP and Rocky was the best match of the whole tournament, at least till now since we're missing the final match.

Yes. Its pretty rare actually. ELP is a heel but he still does every highspot known to mankind, he has one heel characteristic 'move' and its a tree of woe nut shot that he forced into like 3/4 of his BOSJ matches. Hes lazy and not creative.

marufuji shifted the landscape by being a indyriffic but highly sucessful jr heavyweight, then took SHITLOADS of steroids - like id be surprised if he doesnt have a hear attack in the next 15 years - to compete at heavyweight, won the GHC heavyweight title in a bullshit match everyone hated except american smarks by surviving a gorillion finishers, and because he had so much sway, thats basically where he stayed on the card, contesting the top of the heavyweight pile, even though he shouldve just been in the jr division

he forced open the floodgates for indyriffic and flippy little guys to compete for heavyweight titles in japan, and now you have a situation where NJ's "heavyweight" talent pool is just heavily skinny guys doing moonaults. literally none of this shouldve happened and marufuji shouldnt have won that title, everyone said it was stupid and would fuck up the preceedant, and then got over it or forgot about it as NOAH got worse, but it turns out we were right all along

Marufuji bulked up when moving up but he always had a wide frame and he really stopped doing highflying moves(similar to Muta but even more so). He was also more popular in Japan than America and he didn't get his ace run until 2015.

After going heavewight he stopped going to the top rope for any move, at most he still did a spanish fly once in a match and even then not every match. He added the knee strike, he started doing chops which look better from a smaller guy than elbow strikes, and his emerald flowison variation is a legit way of homaging his mentor without going full copy wrestler and just using an old move.

yeah because everyone HATED it and it was a horrendous failure, NOAH had never been lambasted so hard on social media, they put the belt back on misawa who everyone was fucking sick of because he was 1996 hulk hogan, but it was still a better option than leaving it on marufuji after the backlash. the live crowd popped sure. e drones will pop for a fat oily guy dancing in a thong, the live audience anywhere will pop for anything. the actual fans hated it and it created tension and literally overnight reshaped NOAH and splintered its fanbase.
