He did say he liked it. At first. Once he was regulated to jobbing and couldn't get out of the gimmick he started saying he disliked it.
Honestly Cody was stale at the time, Stardust was a good change. It just wasn't good for a long period. Him getting out of WWE has increased his stature. Sometimes it takes leaving to do so.
Doesn't always work, look at EC3 and what he's doing now.

He liked it because of where it could have went, but once he realized he was the replacement for Dustin, instead of using the gimmick to start a feud that could have gotten him over in a "i'm taking off the paint, I'm taking myself back" sort of angle, they relegated him to the midcard oddity spot.
Either way, Stardust was straight dimes.
