I was a Smackdown chad as a kid (didn't have cable) so I never really got to watch Raw during 2002-2005 can anyone here confirm it really was as bad as it was made out to be? was it really just 20 minute HHH promos to start every Raw followed by cunter going over every fucking body at PPVs? Did anyone get over during this period? How bad did business suffer? And just which wrestler had the greatest lost potential because Haitch had to go over brother?
Was the Haitch Raw Reign of Terror really as bad as people say?
Raw was basically two hours of how awesome HHH was. Of course it was shit, and people tuned out in droves.
I feel like I’ve seen this post before.
it was like 30-40 minutes of the beginning of each show of haitch saying "you see the thing is, ya know the thing is"
stop exposing the fucking business
has Gaytch ever once in his life cut an interesting promo?
Very.
It honestly makes me wonder how the actual fuck anyone gets nostalgic for Evolution when they were by far the worst thing about WWE during their time.
>tfw I stopped watching WWE around 2000/2001 and didn't start watching again until 2011 for some reason
That's a whole decade. Did I miss much? Will I enjoy watching back all the ruthless aggression era etc. on the network. I'm currently rewatching every raw from the attitude era onwards and plan to go through everything I've missed. I'm only at August 1997 which is such a kino year.
I’ll expose ya mum ya simp. based thread though keep it up.
No. It's total revisionist history. Basically, you see how current smarks talk only about Roman Reigns, obsess over him because once you actually think critically and observe what their heroes Bryan, Ziggler, Balor etc. are doing in wrestling then the whole notion that they're even average and not a pure cancer on the business falls down like a house of cards? In '04 it was the same thing but they were deflecting from how boring the midgets of those years as well as Orton and Cena were then. History repeated itself. Their contrarianism is one of the top reasons for wrestling's decline in both quality and (fans') quantity. They're deeply afraid of admitting reality.
I will give Evolution credit for getting Batista over super organically WM21 was the payoff to years of Haitch being a cunt and to Gaytch's credit he put Batista over two times in a row after that.
it's decent but quality gradually dips until around 2008, after that prepare for three years of complete garabge (up til now basically)
based user I'm booking you in the main event it's now a three way punjabi prison match with pedomod and theg
Saying kino means your taste is questionable but if you still have a brain despite that then yes, eexactly the first half of those years were a golden age while the second half led to, well, what it was when you came back.
Smackdown is where it's at. 2002 to early 2004 smack is a trip
>Organically
Batista going over had everything to do with Brock leaving and Orton flopping
If not for brock, Cena would've been a midcard rap joke his entire career and Batista would be a statistic, another big guy in a long list of big guys who never got past being the group or team's muscle.
Cena and Batista should be thanking Brock every single day of their lives. Orton should be cursing him.
not without breaking the 4th wall and doing a smark promo. the last act of a desperate shitter.
youtu.be
then the rock btfo him as usual and everyone forgot about it LMAO
dailymotion.com
>Orton flopping
Orton didn't really flop he was pretty over after the Evolution betrayal but cunter had to kill his heat at Unforgiven 2004 IIRC.
BASED Rock always left cunter SEETHING
For what's worth it, it sure made me turn off the tv at least.
It was terrible. Just a shit Ric Flair/Harley Race cosplay routine.
Orton flopped because Triple H kept fucking burying him. Even when Aitch supposedly put him over, he made the fucking match so goddamn boring that it still buried Orton.
ITT "people" who were worked as children by Triple H's heel work and still seethe to this day, confirming just how based Triple H was
i stopped watching after they botched the invasion angle, so i don't care
damn man...Orton got buried so hard man...he has no chance of recovery.
Gaytch buried him whenever it mattered the worst culprit being Mania 25 what the fuck does cunter have against orton anyway?
Haitch had X-pac heat dude look at the ratings plummet during that period if you don't believe me
>I don't need anyone
Except he only got this push because he was fucking the boss' daughter. And thank god Rock buried this shitter.
HHH is insane. Like he's successful, but he definitely has a strange mental illness
Orton's first face turn was over for about a month before people got bored of him. It wasnt just haitch snuffing his momentum either, at 24, he was still too green for the main event.
People complain a lot about that time period but when Triple H lost clean it actually made for great moments cause he was booked so strong.
When he lost to guys like HBK, Batista and Benoit those moments all were great.
I think it's just insecurity he always played third you can even argue forth fiddle to all the actual draws during the attitude era so he crammed himself being "the man" down every ones throat for over a decade after Rock and Austin left
>Orton's first face turn was over for about a month before people got bored of him
how do you figure? I remember him getting pretty good pops
Hell he was maybe the 5th guy. Taker and Mankind were easily bigger than he was.
I mean there's obvious insecurity but everyone is insecure too some extent...but you don't see rock and Austin using politics to cut each other down at any moment. HHH was only a major player around the end of it and that's when it started sucking.
I liked raw during that time. Me and my homie were huge evolution marks
Could you ever imagine Haitch putting over someone like the Rock put over Hurricane in 2003? Despite eating the ass of the boss's daughter he was always super insecure in his position I just don't understand it.
based
I'll just say this about that era of Raw. Triple H pinned Chris Benoit on the 3/14/05 edition of Raw, one year to the date of Mania 20. That tells you everything you need to know about Gaytch and his massive ego.
The Reign of Terror was Gaytch coping with Rock leaving for Hollywood while he was stuck in the circus and had to pay his idol Ric Flari to pretend to like him.
>he was booked so strong
Every single fucking match was
>Evolution interferes and gives H the win
EVERY
SINGLE
FUCKING
ONE
Not only did he bury everyone, he made them all look like retards because you'd think that after the third guy got screwed SOMEBODY would go ''Hey, maybe we should do something about these faggots that keep interfering into every single H match?''.
Kane was more over too. I'd argue even Big Show.
I stopped watching around that time
Everyone stopped watching. I'll never understand why Vince hasn't banned this faggot from his company. Inb NXT, that shit has been bleeding money for years and has failed in creating new stars and instead bring washed-up indy darlings and Japanese wrestlers to a glorified bingo hall.
Around the time Dean or Ziggler challenged him and he cut a variation of the Vince 'Life Sucks' promo, I liked that promo.
got a link by any chance?
Compare Raw's ratings from 99/00 to 03/04 and you tell me
based
I went to a Raw house show in fall 2004. The crowd absolutely hated Cunter. They went apeshit when Orton pinned him.
>I'll never understand why Vince hasn't banned this faggot from his company. Hatch wisely doused his genetic material inside of the womb of his own bosses daughter ensuring the continuance of his bosses own DNA.
I honestly hope WWE dies if only for the reality of HHH being absolutely nothing without WWE to hit his square in the face. Would any company honestly want him?
Think of all the success Randy Orton has had, you could probably had doubled it and cemented Orton as the legit most popular babyface wrestler of the last two decades if HHH didn't bury the guy 1000 ft deep for 4 months
People cry about RVD, the Kane angle (oh yeah during the reign of terror there was no midcard title) the unforgivable Booker T match and the legendarily bad Steiner match and all that pails in how badly he buried Randy Orton, there would be no Batista or John Cena if HHH had put Randy over.
no it wasn't you stupid fucking incel. there's mountains of evidence to how badly it was, not just for fans, but for the company's ratings, buyrates, etc. it was a shitshow.
I stopped watching WWE when it happened.
You forgot "ya see, the fact of the matter is-uh ..."
>dailymotion.com
Minute and a half Rock promo is better than literally everything Triple H has done in his entire career including his 4,567 world title runs.
holy based god dammit i miss how good wrestling used to be
>Orton was over for a month and then people got bored of him
Lmao. You mean HHH buried him one month later and made him look like a little bitch, so people couldn’t get behind him
See also: No Mercy 2007, Wrestlemania 25, The Authority Angle, Orton’s entire career
HHH also had zero business being in true Wrestlemania 24 main event. That was the perfect opportunity to do Cena/Orton one on one at Mania and HHH’s ego wouldn’t allow it.
He was still with Chyna when he started to get his main event push lol
>tfw Raw was only 1h in Europe
we win again
Gaytch had 3 daughters though. Not a single male even after he quit steroids for a while and looked like shit
"in this business-uh"
Let's not forget the time Punk blew him the fuck out over his shitty film
Can just see the seethe on his face at the end there, can almost guarantee he went crying to Vince in the back about that afterwards.
>How was your movie by the way?
>Mine went straight to DVD just like yours
kek you can tell cunter thought he had him there and then he got fucked on by Punk
based
fuck you all Triple H's run was GOAT
People tuning out in droves says otherwise. Plus he had to marry a tranny to get that push
Remember all the great stuff happening at the time like Benoit winning the title and then playing second fiddle to Eugene while Eugene feuded with Evolution?
Cena didn’t debut until 05.
Russo said he saw the pair of hhh and Chyna as dimes, that's why. Not on his own merit
>HHH feels like he hasn't talked in a while, other people might get over in this segment
>h-how was your movie??
>punk not only buries shitty movies but makes it clear he dosen't give a slight fuck about it in the first place
Not usually a fan of CM Phil but he fucking lasered H3 with that
Ok Paul
Agreed, bunch of whiners ITT
I fucking hate triple h, cena and orton. Fucking fags killed wrestling.
its so cringey watching reign of terror era RAW now, when evolution enter they think they look so good
based
haha, i hate punk but he had some good btfo moments
He debuted Thanksgiving 02' against Angle. 18+
bases
I didn't have cable either and always watched Smackdown but then my parents got cable in 2004 and I tuned in just around the time when Benoit won the rumble and feuded with HHH and HBK - I thought it was based. Raw had a more "larger than life" vibe than smackdown did - particularly Kane, Y2J, RVD and all those other upper midcard guys really starstruck me. Smackdown was good too but Raw felt more grandiose to me. Matter of fact, I liked HHH here, I only got tired of his shit around >2006. The whole evolution mafia with HHH in a suit and his flowing blonde hair was pretty based actually. Admit it.
bsd
All anyone has to know is that Gaytch has a micro dick ayy lmao
Honestly, there's a lot that I love about Evolution-era Raw but it's hard to forgive the 30 minute promos that opened every Raw for nearly three years. The Invasion killed much of the interest that brought new fans in from the Attitude Era but Triple H's reign didn't bring anybody back. Following this up with years of rejected "superstars" like Cena and Reigns brought WWE to lowest ratings in history that they're struggling through at the moment.
Based digits
Cunter not doing the right thing by dropping the title to Goldberg at SS 03 (despite the fact that Gaytch was legitimately injured at the time) was the last straw. Didn't come back to wrestling until 2009
That's actually kind of typical for every heel stable. You would THINK the babyfaces (or even other heels that aren't part of that stable) would quickly get their shit together and watch each others' backs. But it invariably takes six fucking months before any of them grow a brain.
They played it pretty well with The SHIELD though. In addition to interfering with an extra man in 1v1 or 2v2 matches, they also just straight up won 3v3 matches by fighting dirty in a "fair" fight. And it didn't take ABSURDLY long before the babyfaces all got on the same page and ran in to support other babyfaces when the SHIELD tried to have a third guy involve himself in a 2v2 match.
I don't think Evolution every really got swarmed and beat up by babyfaces as penance for all the mob gooning they did. Evolution imploded on itself after making everyone else on the roster look like an idiot. Even fucking Bluetista Evolution didn't actually put anyone over. They got the heat on the SHIELD with the Rollins turn, then disintegrated and The Authority just started up all over again.
Do you really think he wasn't also fucking Stephanie?
Triple H singlehandedly killed this company with his reign of terror. If you go back to the modern history of WWE starting from WM1, no heel has ever held the world title longer than him for a period of time which correlates to millions of viewers turning away from the product. Somehow that fucker thought it was a good idea to have himself on top defeating babyface after babyface after babyface.
>two of the biggest legends in the business leave
>it was HHH's fault!
m8
>sees himself as equal to Rock/Austin/Mankind
>couldn't draw
>subjected us to his shit promos and matches that dragged every feud down
Of course it's his fault for stinking up all the main event scene by putting himself in the main event program. If he had knew his actual worth and stuck himself in the midcards, things would have turned out alot differently for the better once they left.
It fucking sucked, but at least he put over Chris Benoit at WM20, Batist at WM21, and Cena at WM22.
mmmmmmmm
gonna need a source on this one
The only Hunter burial that really bothered me was Eugene. What should have been the dumbest and most offensive gimmick really got over because of Nick Dinsmore and Eric Bischoff. The whole "Triple H is my favorite wrestler" angle should have been dimes. Guys like Kurt Angle didn't mind putting the "retard" over. They really had a serious build up for Eugene, people were behind this inspirational mentally challenged dude. Even if Hunter put him over in a fluke win, dude could have been a huge star. But, nope. Ten minutes of getting heat on the "retard". Here comes the big comeback... nope. Pedigree. One, two, three. The whole gimmick was deflated. Eugene was a comedy act in a tag team then disappeared shortly after.
List of buried talents during Reign of Terror
RVD
Kane
Scott Steiner
Booker T
Kevin Nash
Goldberg
Randy Orton
Eugene
Raw audience
Raw ratings
You can even include Chris Jericho which was way before the reign of terror started but was buried nonetheless
fuck off, Hunter
Imagine being HHH and feeling threatened by Eugene of all people. What a joke of a human being.
The breakup storyline, with Orton, the thumbs down and then Batista was actually kino, the sort of long form storytelling you don't get nowadays. Everything else about them was shit.
I assume he meant on RAW.
Buried Umaga
Buried Spirit Squad
Buried Chris Masters
Buried entire Raw roster
Refused to put over Jeff cleanly
Refused to look bad in a video game
>dailymotion.com
Fuck prime Rock was amazing
H going over fucking Goldberg of all people was the nail in the coffin for me. I realized that wrestling just want fun anymore. So yeah, it was that bad.
It doesnt matter, vince's DNA is still passed on thanks to Haitch.
Original Brock run is pure kino, I unironically think Brock could have been the GOAT if he didn't burn out. After that the Heymen era of good SmackDown ends and the overall product is pretty bad. Both ECW ONS shows are great. Some good stuff like Edge/Cena feud but mixed in with plenty of bad. Very few mid/lower card guys from that era were memorable at all or have any relevance today. For example 205 midcarder Brian Kendrick was the Michaels of the longest reigning tag champs of the era so just think how bad the rest of the division was. You also have garbage like reunion DX.
YOU SEE OP
THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS
I AM A HAITCH MARK
AND EVEN I CAN SAY THAT THIS SHIT WAS ROUGH
IT WAS THAT DAMN BAD
All you need to know is 2006 BEEG is
Thank god TNA started up around this time.
All you needed was $100 for illegal cable boxes back then.
My family was fortunate to have one.
Yes, we were poor, but TNA started on PPV every Wednesday.
It's funny that Orton has 300 world title reigns yet no real stand out promos/feuds/matches. Legend killer gimmick was fun but that was before most title reigns/main events and his Taker WM match was put to shame by Batista and Edge. Rated RKO was pretty good but buried by DX. After that everything is cringe or boring. Least interesting part of Bryan being on top 2013-14 when Bryan was super over, if Bryan had beat Cena and had a long title reign he could have had multiple kino matches. The WM30 moment was great but that wasn't down to Randy. What has he done since then? Buried Bray in a terrible feud? Boring WM match with Seth?
Booker t got it bad
any self respecting wrestling fan stopped watching during the invasion angle and started watching again when threads started popping up on Yea Forums.
Test
How do we direct Gaytch to this thread? Someone with twitter please link him.
For me the worst part is that Gaytch's excuse for winning WM19 was to have a strong rival for Goldberg and then he proceed to bury Goldberg.
Thank god for this beacon of hope that put a stop to this mess
They say Gaytch found out about wrestling communities on the internet back in 2005 and he thought fans would be marking out for Evolution and comparing him to Ric Flair. Then he found out the fans hated him and Gaytch seeth. It's a rumor but it sounds plausible
It was pretty bad.
A lot of the Attitude Era audience stopped watching around this time.
Source: My Ass
Russo was talking about internet forums openly in like 2000, there's no way the boys weren't smart to it too.
Gaytch is a special case, what mean he's really dumb.
Unironically this
Never trust a smark’s negative opinion of tall, handsome, ripped wrestlers. Similarly never trust a smark’s positive opinion of short vanilla midget flippy shitter indie darling bingo hall wrestler types.
Not in the slightest.
It was actually the only thing keeping RAW alive. They forced RAW to take the divas. Undertaker got all the good stars apart from HHH.
HHH is never the top guy, he's always the guy that makes everyone else look like the top guy. Hence he was always in the title picture getting amazing matches out of everyone
People like to bitch because he's responsible for the shit factory that's NXT
Invasion definitely could've done well but it turned out to be the Invasion, Vince couldn't be bothered to buy out the contracts for any of the big stars and made WCW (and ECW) guys not named RVD look like total shitters the entire time.
So basically the only thing "good" about evolution is when they were breaking up.
Literally fuck this shitty group.
I'm happy they came out to crickets during that Shield feud.
Based Hunter working outlaw marks into a seethe
For me, it's the Eddie is down there in hell promo.
Of course everyone from WCW got fucked.
I always find funny how Gaytch buried the WCW title during his infamous "people like you" promo with Mr WCW Ric Flair chuckling at his back. I guess all those limousines, whores and alimonies aren't cheap
Does he really think his name belongs in the same sentence as Ric Flair? The man is delusional
This.
You idiots are blaming Triple H for things that had nothing to do with him when in reality he had a great run as champ and was the absolute best part of RAW or even WWE in general at the time.
Just see OP's pic. The reign of terror was Gaytch cosplaying Ric Flair with Evolution as his Four Hoursemen and he even brought Ric Flair. Gaytch is insane and this is the man that smarks on reddit and twitter want to succeed VInce right now
>the sort of long form storytelling you don't get nowadays
Like memes smarter than "kino". Well, I guess there's the rape thing.
hhh so insecure that he had to emasculate a nigger before nash got to do it
youtube.com
Randy orton was never gonna be a giant star. he looked like a fag
triple H on the other hand. that guys is fuckign cool. awsome long hair. nice tanned body. puts on classic matches.
Triple H is a super star
Randy is a fuck boi
RVD should've won the 2003 Rumble match, beat Gaytch at Mania 19, and hold the title until Survivor Series or Armageddon that year. Maybe then that era would have been somewhat better.
Fuck I forgot about that. I was hilarious because you know Paul was expecting this huge pop.
Not to mention the entrance, the entrance music, the moveset, the nicknames, mic skill (he's not The Rock and he doesn't try to be, comparing him to The Rock and the likes is unfair because he plays a completely different mic game, he's a tough guy first and foremost not le funny man), the smug shit eating facial expressions (he's a great heel) and the fact that even when he got the shit beaten out of him (and when he did it was great because he bled like a stuck pig) you could still believe this guy was a tough motherfucker.
He may have started as a midcard second fiddle to Shawn but he was always going to be a star.
>RVD should've won the... [WWE Championship]
Worked shoots are such bullshit. All of this stuff about "wrestling only works when there's at least a tinge of doubt in the audience's head about whether it's real" isn't in line with how people were consuming wrestling back when they tuned in every week for Austin. It's just another genre of fiction when you get right down to it. It's the mandrama. I don't care if Cornetty doesn't like it.
Daniel Craig didn't interrupt Casino Royale to say "This isn't James Bond talking to Le Chiffre. This is Daniel Craig talking to Mads Mikkelsen!" The set is an alternate reality where Daniel Craig doesn't exist. Likewise, when there's a ring in the middle of the arena and people in the stands, Paul Levesque should cease to exist the moment that he passes through those curtains, and any backstage corporate drama involving Paul Levesque should also cease to exist. If the crowd wants to chant at Paul Levesque, Triple H should have no idea what they're talking about.
