Their first phase to build their fandom is by bringing in ex WWE fans or disgruntled WWE fans. The reason AEW is as hot as it currently is is because it exists opposite of WWE and another War might be on the horizon.
They could easily do their own thing but that wont bring in as many eyes as being the thing that can possibly take down WWE. They will throw as many shots to WWE as possible. WWE did, and for some reason still does, the same exact thing to WCW.
They will continue to shit on WWE and rightfully so. This is marketing.
