This basically kills WWE in the UK. They’ve been kicked off Sky, and have never really done well viewership wise. TNA was more popular than WWE in the UK.
ITV4 is a channel everyone has.

ITV4 is pretty trash. You really want the real ITV channel that everyone has.

COPE
It's a quaint Meltzer spin but the channel WWE is being moved to is still available to all Sky viewers on top of the new ones so it actually increases their reach
UK Chad here.
NOBODY watches ITV4
People watch ITV and ITV 2.
Nobody watches ITV 3 or 4.
Imagine celebrating being on ITV4 OH NO NO NO NO NO AEWtists are denser than previously expected.
Kek what? Sky is payTV. How does that increase their reach?
Wrestling has always been butchered in the UK.
When Channel five aired WCW, they removed all the promos and skits. Instead, they merged Nitro and Thunder into one heavily edited format. Later into the deals run with five, they censored weapon hits with Batman inspired captions.
Whereas when Channel 4 aired Heat, they slotted it right after the Italian Football. Sure it was watched, but it was fucking Heat. You can only indulge so much Al Snow.
TNA had the best run when on Challenge, but Sky did everything in its power to ensure that show remained small. Constantly moving it's time slot around, misadvertising events. Least PPV's where free.
In the UK, the only way you can get your wrestling fed to a broad audience now is to accept a Freeview deal. ITV4 (AEW) and Five Star (iMPACT) are just the start. Don't be shocked if NXT UK ends up on E4 or something counterproductive like Dave, BLAZE or QUEST.
Sky TV is pay TV, and if WWE is going to BT they have to pay extra for that too.
Champions League gets less than 1 million and that's biggest games shown at prime time. WWE could easily get less than 50k on BT.
AEW even on ITV4 reaches every TV in the country, and could beat WWE on BT
nobody watches ITV4
What's the deal with this shitty argument popping up? It's on literally every TV in the country, just because it plays reruns of boomer soap operas all day doesn't change that. You need to unironically cope with the fact this deal has better reach than WWE's. It just does.
>He doesn’t watch Love Island weekly recaps
That's ITV 2 ya damn simpola.
For the US audience: ITV 4 is basically divorced dad TV, but pretty based because of that. Repeats of 1970s cop shows, Rocky or a James Bond film every Friday night, the minor darts tournaments that Sky didn't pick up. Really don't see how AEW fits into that demographic.
>They censored weapon hits with Batman inspired captions
You're joking, right?
They do have quite a bit of sport on there en.wikipedia.org
World of Sport's ratings weren't great so I see why they wouldn't risk putting it on the main channel.
Nope. Channel 5's broadcasting of WCW was an absolute fucking shower: shows out of order, showing Thunder while Nitro was on a bigger channel at the same time, and yeah - 60s batman "WHACK" captions to censor weapon shots.
WWE will likely get sub 100k on BT. It doesn't take that much for AEW to go over that, even on ITV 4. Hell passing interest alone (as in flicking through the channels) could push it above that
Just why exactly has Britain been a cancer on this beloved sport for all these decades? Even for HBK vs. Randy Savage years before the Attitude Era they were trying to take over the show with smark noises and make it about them.
BT will be part of the sky sports package later this year so if you watched wwe on sky you will be able to watch it still without having to sub to anything else. stop spreading FUD you aew cultist
Being popular in the UK means nothing.
they haven’t a fucking hope of 100k on ITV4
Same channel as the arrers? /180/ invasion angle?
Yes it does. The US isn’t the world.
You're right but if AEW doesn't draw ratings here, then this whole thing is a failure. They're an American company after all.
Absolutely kek
Eh, at least i can sky plus it then
>tfw Price becomes the top heel of AEW and PDC
wwe was not kicked off sky. BT outbid sky for the product as they see more value in it than some no name shitter brand like AEW. So basically wwe got another injection of cash, more than they made off sky. I could probably afford to buy an advert on ITV4 because no one watches.
oi m8, they air minder. based programme desu.
It's a matter of time slots and middle management bullshit. The UK's "Watershed" law prevents certain themes and material to not be broadcast until a set time.
When Channel 4 picked up WWF's Heat (This was back when C4 was the edgy channel showcasing things like Ali G, Trigger Happy TV and South Park) they didn't really know how to brand the product. Sure it was risky and fit the demographic, but it's presented as a Sport. Hence it was slotted on Sunday afternoon after the Italian football. It would go head to head with SONGS OF PRAISE.
Channel 4's deal with WWF ended when they decided to broadcast Fully Loaded. For free. While also putting on adverts. Matches would end during the breaks. Peak 90's bullshit.
Channel five has always been a fucking mess. Aside from NCIS and CIS, the selection of shows was just whatever they could obtain rights too. If you like Chuck Norris and Van Damme films, they had you covered. In short, they aired a lot of porn in the first two years of being active due to lack of shows.
Now it could it have been due to the names featured on WCW or the fact that Rupert Murdoch was involved but WCW was toned down to be more like the late 80s WWF. Far too safe.
As for Challenge fucking around with iMPACT? Sky brought out Challenge and since TNA was a direct rival to WWE they sabotaged them.
Again, this is why small Freeview channels like E4, Blaze and the likes are the only way that a wrestling show will be able to get a non-watershed timeslot.
>NOBODY watches ITV4
They will now.
I'll watch whatever channel they stick AEW on.
Literally tens and tens of aew fans will tune in every week
This is a surprisingly great deal for AEW. ITV4 is a free channel that everyone has. Sky Sports and BT Sports are both pay channels and don't get nearly the same viewers, despite having the more high profile sporting events.
To use an example, this year's UK Open Darts Final on ITV4 got 591,000, so AEW could conceivably approach those numbers if they promote it right. I think Raw used to get about 100,000 on Sky Sports in 2010, so on BT Sport this will probably be slightly lower because Sky Sports is the more famous brand.
If AEW play their cards right, they could dwarf WWE in the UK ratings.
I haven’t bothered since they stopped the replays of Goodnight Sweetheart.
ITV4 is basically a niche sports and mens interest channel. It's probably the most sensible channel for AEW to air on since none of the big 4 channels (BBC1 & 2, ITV1 and Channel 4) will carry it.
>What's the deal with this shitty argument popping up? It's on literally every TV in the country, just because it plays reruns of boomer soap operas all day doesn't change that.
Just because it's on every TV doesn't mean it's actually on on any TV's because nobody watches ITV4 lmao
*ahem*
I did not know that. That's great I can watch Bundesliga now on BT.
Thanks for the information user
QVC channel is on everyone’s TV doesn’t mean everyone’s watching it buying hoovers ya damn simp faglord
