he doens't fall into the actual format honestly.
I dunno he will ever leave abyss
really? I'd think if anybody he'd be on the track character wise.
whos the better example? Bryan?
Tanahashi, Omega
Tanahashi is already on his 2nd go around
I will add that it would be good if someone would take this book and physically hit Vince over the head with it. Tell him to maybe read it and try to absorb some of it and maybe just maybe he can upgrade the storytelling in the WWE.
OR.. he could just die and let someone who's actually competent at managing a wrestling company control the creative aspects of the business. Yes, I think that death is going to be Vince's greatest contribution to the WWE.
man you shouldn't wish death on people, it's not right. It's going to be really sad when he dies
AJ STYLES
Nakamura
Makabe
Kenta Kobashi
Okada
Prince Devitt
He had to tell everyone under oath he lied about his cock size.
I thought of a really good way to do the hero's journey w/ Ricochet but it'll never get done.
short summary time:
>put Ricochet in a pupil/mentor relationship w/ Finn Balor
>Balor begins to struggle with his "demon" persona
>Balor turns dark and the "demon" takes over
>Ricochet is caught in a spot where he respects Finn as his mentor but he can't abide by the way he's acting
>Ricochet must grow as a wrestler through trial and error to build his strength to try and stop his rogue mentor
>it all culminates w/ a WM match where the pupil defeats his mentor in his "demon" form and save his mentor..
>he gains a championship but at cost of having to humble his former mentor
something like that. I really think they should do more long stories like that where they pair up wrestlers who have similar styles/gimmicks and have the elder wrestler sort of pass the torch to the younger one. Another good pairing would be the Undertaker and Bray Wyatt only have Bray betray the Undertaker to take his power as a way to allow the Pure Striker© to finally fucking retire.
But this is a death that is needed. I'll be honest it will be sad to see him go without a doubt but think of VInce's death as the turning of the soil. His death will turn the soil of the foundation of WWE and bring nutrient rich soil to the top to better feed the company so it can grow properly again.
yeah i'm fond of that story telling too, Wrestling honestly could learn A LOT from Anime about how to set up feuds and character development. It USED to be like that
like wrestling should be the story of some rich guy who gathers weird fighters from all over the world/universe and they all fight eachother in their own unique fantasy and style.
I think they got the right idea with Heels though, because Heels are needed to CREATE faces, heros don't just come out of nowhere, nobody is BORN a hero, heros are created. bad guys are always there and have always been there.
Yes, WWE needs to play to the strengths of the core nature of their product. It's a "sport" so mentor/pupil relationships are a very important aspect to sports and they can create great drama with betrayals/etc.
It just takes a willingness to take basic drama that stems from a sport and elevate that to fantastical levels. rivalries, betrayals, comraderie, and so on. Make us believe this is a living, breathing locker room with athletes who form bonds, friendships, rivalries, and even love (Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins, just fuck already) over time.
If you're going to give me a sports soap opera do it right!
The closest in WWE was Kofi's run up to WM35
Call to Adventure: Ali is hurt, a replacement is needed.
Threshold: Middle of the first gauntlet he fires up, starts the "11 years i been waiting for this"
Mentors/Helpers: Big E and Xavier where there the whole way
Challenges: Elimination Chamber, which he lost
The Death: Kofi loses the second chamber, his title shot is gone.
Rebirth: New Day wins the title shot for him, his match is back on.
Transformation: A more serious Kofi emerged earlier in the story but not much changed.
Atonement: He put his family second, company first -- a company guy and WM 35 he was finally going to make the sacrifices worth it.
Return: Kofi wins the title, celebrating with his family and his partners, he brought the treasure back from the castle and is treated like a conquering hero.
END.
yeah I like how they are drifting back towards real gimmicks and kind of losing the whole "First name/Last name" style of character. Granted there's still some every man - no gimmick guys like Seth or AJ, but those clean cut guys are needed to bring the crowd back down to earth after the more zany stuff.
back in the attitude era I think people were just being blasted with so much batshit insane performance art so fast that they never took the time to even question if it was real or not. It was a better time for the art form for sure, but it's still very very fixable, Vince just needs to push it A LITTLE more, they already started doing more No DQ matches and wrestlers have been taking nasty bumps lately
They could still do insane gimmick level characters like the Undertaker by having them have matches against normal seeming wrestlers who just brush off the "fantasy character" but in the end the more fantastical wrestler wins which creates doubt in the normal wrestler. Have that build over time as they keep losing to more fantastical bullshit until eventually they overcome this almost fourth wall breaking element to finally defeat the seemingly undefeatable fantasy wrestler through the power of ho hum average wrestler power of will.
Omega did it.
Okada just finished his second lap.
Naito got like 80% of the way but he keeps getting kicked back to the halfway point.
The sad thing thinking upon the "hero's journey' they could have used RR's leukemia as a spring board to start him over from scratch. Have him come back from an illness they could use as an excuse to weaken him. He jobs out to people he normally wouldn't (Elias, Apollo, etc) thus giving those guys a little push from beating a former "top dog". RR would then build from these defeats and bury his weakness from his illness until he was back into the proper title scene. It could end with him taking a title off someone who perhaps had crushed him previously in his weakened state but now that he has built himself back up to the status of a champion he can't be stopped.
seth rollins unironically
that's how Dragon Ball Z would do it
X-Pac
Daniel Bryan
no one has ever gotten supernatural aid
so no one
bray has a shot I guess
I strongly believe they should've ditched the name Roman Reigns and started calling him Joe Anoa'i when he came back. But it's very clear they have absolutely no interest in booking Roman any differently, so he's just gonna be getting booed again by next year probably.
It's not literal, man, "supernatural aid" is just another name for meeting the mentor. Once the hero has committed to their quest, they meet someone that will guide or assist them.
Kenny njpw
>the call
Him signing with new Japan
>supernatural aid
Bullet club

it's not literal
