I think the better way to say what he was saying is that fringe politics have become more prominent, and that the end game for a far right movement would be fascism/majority preservation, which would lead jews to have to leave or be exterminated. I think what he's saying is that the lesser of two evils for jews would be far left policies being enacted, so they are generally left leaning by extension

That’s not how American politics have functioned since 2016. The old system of maintaining a 2 Party neoliberal, neoconservative consensus while each party distinguished itself with shibboleth wedge issues is gone. On the left, Sanders mobilized an explicitly socialistic constituency, while Trump mobilized the extreme far right, including White Nationalists and Neo Nazis. Socialists had always been a constituency in the Democratic Party, as had White Supremacists in the Republican Party, but Party leaders had always been able to submerge their voices and get their votes (with less and less efficacy) without having to explicitly mobilize them. That changed in2016.
