I would have to guess it's because anything that they end up doing good is going to make the WWE look bad. The WWE is not putting out a good product right now, so even if AEW ends up being more bad than good, it's going to be a lot easier to point to something and say they are doing that particular thing better. And for the bad stuff, it can be pretty easily excused by just saying they are a new company with a lot of green wrestlers. Plus the fact that Vince has never treated any kind of competition as good for business, and has gone out of his way to hoard talent and damage other promotions before because it worked well for him. And he commands a lot of loyalty from the fans of the WWE, so I'm sure a lot of people are thinking that he is right about that.

Hopefully it does reasonably well, and the WWE can pick up some different ideas about what works with the fans now, so their TV can improve.
