(in theory) thanks to the lottery, the nba doesn't reward teams for being shitty as there is a chance, albeit small, that you could just miss the playoffs and get the number one pick. This (in theory) should encourage all the teams to try to win, whereas in the NFL or other major sports you know you are guaranteed to get the top pick if you have the worst record so you have incentive to do worse. Now, in reality, teams in the nba tank so they have better odds of getting the top pick, but I still like the system they have better since it technically could convince all the teams to try their best.
