Big Daddy was the biggest anti draw in history. He absolutely devastated British wrestling to the point it was only just recovering a couple of year ago until Haitch pissed all over it. The UK should be up there with USA, Japan and Mexico as the major wrestling countries, but thanks to Big Daddy (and Haitch) it never will be.

World of Sport used to draw 10 million+ viewers every week in a country with 1/5 the population of the US. British Wrestling drew dimes on a level that Vince could only dream of.
It was mainly TV execs fucking with the timeslot that killed it though. Wrestling still has the potential to draw big ratings in the UK which is why Gaitch signed every single UK wrestler he could to a mark contract to kill off the World of Sport revival.

The NXT UK model is different, the likes of Toni Storm and Joe Coffey still wrestle the UK indies. Dunne and Rhea and people like that are exclusive, but most aren't.

You do realise this is all lies British workers who left the country because they couldn't draw told Meltzer as soon as they reached the States? The negative reputation Daddy has is mainly a result of Meltzer (and other US dirtsheet types) writing an inaccurate history of British wrestling. The real death blow was a pile-up of multiple factors happening in a very short space of time (satellite TV launching, the death of King Kong Kirk and its effect on Crabtree, Greg Dyke getting in at ITV, the Premier League era making football commercially viable again, WWF European expansion). If just one of those things hadn't happened there would have been a World of Sport-style show somewhere on British TV (late night ITV, early morning Channel 4, maybe even Eurosport) and you'd have had the likes of Robbie Brookside and Andre Baker as the next generation of household names.
