I can't imagine that was the original plan, there was probably supposed to be something with Eddie/Eli at the PPV. This is supposedly the episode he was supposed to job to a woman in, so it would make sense that a last minute write-out to happen when he refused.

They probably had something like a continuation of the fight outside of the venue, leading to a hardcore match at Rebellion. He was booked to go against Tessa at United We Stand, which happened after these episodes in Canada were taped.

Rich Swann was homeless and friendless on the streets when he was like 18, and was brought in by the OvE family, who took care of him for some amount of time. Eventually he got on his own two feet and ended up as the X-division champ, and Callahan confronted him wanting him to join OvE again because they were his home. He refused because he doesn't like their general shitty behavior which broke Callahan's heart, starting a feud between OvE and Swann. Willie Mack had Swann's back, and OvE brainwashed Sawyer Fulton to join them under the name Madman Fulton to help in the fight.

It's a pretty absurd angle but I like it for the novelty of a group of psycho Ohioan crusty punks genuinely wanting a flippy black dude to be their friend.
