New Japan announced Kazuchika Okada, Tetsuya Naito, Jay White and Kota Ibushi for the G-1 Climax tournament. It’s a given they would all be there. I guess it was a way to try and kick-start ticket sales in Dallas. They discounted tickets last week which ended up being a hell of a lesson. The lesson is the people who want to see New Japan for the most part will pay the ticket price, but right now there is a number that, in this incarnation, without the former American top draws, they simply can’t run an NBA arena. As of several days after the tickets were discounted only 62 more tickets were sold.
That led to the announcing of the names. Originally the way New Japan works is that they don’t announce who is in G-1 until after Dominion in June, but because they felt they needed something for Dallas, they announced the top four guys this week. Dallas also had no local advertising.
Maybe dont have your shows in shit house wrestling towns. Stick to California, Chicago, NY, or Philly. Dallas has been shite since the 80s.
Austin Jones
This. Any show in Philly or NY would sell out on day 1.
Isaiah Perry
Not a excuse. AEW is close to sellout the Jacksonville show. NJPW just doesn't have the attraction to run non-wrestling cities anymore.
Jack Price
The "American top draws" didn't help ROH or up NJPW's other ticket sales.
Dave needs to put some ice on his AEW-induced hardon.
Leo Garcia
Went to plenty of ROH show where all the Elite except Kenny were on the card. Still half empty venues.
Sebastian Mitchell
Maybe announcing a card or matches in advance after fans got burned due to visa troubles and got a show that consist of ROH guys and NJPW trainees despite paying exorbitant ticket prices would help more than cutting ticket prices? Dave is desperate in pushing NJPW to work with AEW because he knew AEW will get a better TV deal with NJPW on board.
Ayden Harris
The American draws created their own company and sold out one 10.000 seats arena and are close to sellout a 5.000 on a non-wrestling city. Maybe the problem is with NJPW and ROH.
Western fans are spoiled, they don't want a "Road to..." show they want Wrestle Kingdom in a bingo hall.
Benjamin Hill
For those prices I expect a big show. Not a glorified ROH show with young lions.
Parker Adams
Most of it is fly-in smark cunts. When they start running regular tours and TV and have the same success you can use this as an argument.
John Sanchez
>Jacksonville >Fly-in Sure pal
Nicholas Brown
Exactly, I've been to a NJPW AU that had most of the big names, and there is only 1 good matches the entire 3 hour show, most of them are them going through their greatest hits. I imagine it's worse when it's a glorified ROH show with young lions.
Julian James
What if we call all American shows G1 shows so no normies understand how important G1 Climax as. I love going to wrestlemania 1 through 14 throughout the year at wwe and don’t find it confusing at all
Kayden Ward
If they called them Road To next big show no one would bother with it, just like on NJPWWorld.
Samuel Russell
Lol he looks like in a cartoon when the villain gets beat and then comes back all jacked. He has a tiny little weasel face planted on this inflated muscle frame
>already reduced to bragging about ALMOST selling out 5,000 seats The cope is real
Lucas Thompson
>falling for the "sold out" meme when tickets are everywhere on secondary markets Aewtists can't ever get a clue, can they?
Adam Long
>a sellout isn't a sellout!
This is a brand new level of cope
Owen Anderson
Lad, this is coming from people that unironically call others e-drones when they tow the company line harder than TNA fans in the 2000's.
Christian Moore
How much is AEW paying people to buy their tickets?
Jason Martin
Their paying me with your mom.
Jaxson Torres
Reminder that WWE had 20.000 tickets on the secondary market last year.
Hunter Young
I thought this would go poorly as soon as it was announced, though this is admittedly worse than expected. One can only hope the Texas trend of "buying tickets at the gate" keeps up, but frankly I think Dallas just isn't their market. Hopefully the lesson NJPW learns is "fuck the South" not "fuck US".
>... (a) show in Philly pls Harold, I beg of you The only problem is they will literally never run a solo Philly show while paired with ROH, and I don't expect then to break off, even after the MSG debacle.
That's literally the gimmick user
Ryan Edwards
Why are AEDrones seething so hard at New Jachads?
James Scott
>has no actual response >retorts with "no but WWE"
AEW is a cult, huh?
Easton Perez
The sad thing is that the G1 Climax pisses all over anything else wrestling related. And it's getting buried by trannies from AEW.
